Re: Justice
Oh Lordy, where do I start?
I actually think Trespass was better, although Justice made me laugh out loud and snigger through other parts - the more mature lady sitting next to me didn't seem to share my sense of humour so apologies to her if I spoilt her enjoyment of this nonsense.
Guy Pearce what in heaven's name are you doing in a film like this - Nic Cage, you should know better , but clearly care no more!! I thought after Bad Lieutenant you'd upped your game, but this week proves otherwise.
Anything more I say will give the game away.....
Erm, i was entertained, but for all the wrong reasons.
In generous spirit I'll give it 3.5/10

Re: Justice
The 2nd in a proposed series of films where Nicolas Cage acts alongside actors who have appeared in Neighbours*, Justice might not quite be the stinker Trespass was but it's still pretty bad.
The 1st half was trundling along, fairly average and inoffensive. Sadly just under the hour mark with Nicolas Cage in an interrogation room, the film introduced a series of twists and turns of such an ever-increasing level of stupidity and lack of logic that the film completely collapses into the laughable misfire category (thank god Cage nicked a car with some fancy gadgets in eh? What would he have done if he hadn't?).
As soon as it had to explain itself it fell apart with the reasoning behind what the bad guys were doing and why being incredibly vague and unconvincing. No doubt each twist was supposed to amaze the audience but it never made enough sense for that to work and just became tedious (the very final scene for example which was so dumb and idiotic)
Cage has admittedly been worse and this was one of his less unhinged performances, January Jones was passable and Guy Pearce could be a great bad guy if given a better script. Jennifer Carpenter will no doubt be quite happy she had such a non-existent role as most people will probably forget she was in it after a week.
If the second half had been like the first it would have probably been a passable but utterly forgettable thriller. Sadly it wasn't and Justice turns into a film that makes The Next Three Days (a film it superficially resembles) look like a work of genius in comparison (and that was shite).

Is this the word your asterisk was referencing?kevinknapman wrote:a film that makes The Next Three Days (a film it superficially resembles) look like a work of genius in comparison (and that was sh*t).

Re: Justice
Funnily enough it did cross my mind that some people might think that, but my desire to not write a swear word overruled it. I'll have to think of another way of doing it.Jayman wrote:Is this the word your asterisk was referencing?kevinknapman wrote:a film that makes The Next Three Days (a film it superficially resembles) look like a work of genius in comparison (and that was sh*t).

EDIT: That's better. Shite. Not quite as offensive (for some reason).

Re: Justice
This was a pretty decent but forgettable thriller. Good plot but being a Hollywood movie, they couldnt resist going a bit over the top with some action set pieces but then the story was over the top so I guess it all complements each other. I am not a nitpicker of plausibility so I can thankfully enjoy films like this that is obviously not p*ying any attention to plausibility right from the start. I wont recommend this film to those of you are care about that sort of thing.
I quite enjoyed the action even though it has some of the worst editing I've seen for a while.
A special mention of the great man, Cage. Never has there been an I actor I like to watch when they are acting terrible. He can be in turns badass awesome and then awesomely bad. He was so unintentionally funny at the beginning doing some weird jive talking that I just cracked up. He really is a director's actor...by which I mean, he is awesome when he is directed well but hilariously bad when he is misdirected. Well in this movie, we kinda get to see both sides of Cage. There is no one else like him.
Roll on Trespass tomorrow. Actually this is turning out to be a Cagey week for me as I just saw Sorcerers Apprentice the other day which he was at his quirky best.
I'll forget this movie existed in a few days but I enjoyed it while it rolled and thats what matters.
6.5/10

Re: Justice
So the one time the O2 decides to open the balcony area again and first, we only arrive at 6.10pm and are almost turned away. The peeps in front of us were told to go down again but we simply walked past them, gave our ticket to the usher and found 2 seats. They weren't together, mind you, as there were only single seats left dotted around but I don't see that as a reason to turn people away. So I parked OH next to hdaniel82 and her OH and sat in the row in front on me jack. Got bored so went in search for other FMUKers and discovered PXC, MariaLionza and later hopeprince in the first row, so started chatting to them. Then shmile arrived and managed to get an usher to move a row of people along so she and her friend could sit together.
I wish the usher had stayed during the film and shut the annoying people to my right up. They weren't even directly next to me but man, were they noisy. Chatting all the way through and laughing like hyenas. Ok, so you think it's a comedy, doesn't mean you have to be quite so disruptive to other people and give a running commentary as well!
The film was ok actually, nothing special and won't leave an impression with anyone, typical Hollywood fare, but perfectly watchable. The title annoyed me greatly though. This wasn't Justice, this was Revenge. The actions were humanly understandable but still morally wrong. To quote Simon Wiesenthal, the famous nazi hunter: "Recht, nicht Rache". ("Justice, not revenge").
But hey, this was a Nic Cage film after all, and not a great philosophical masterpiece. Funny that after "Put the bunny back in the box" he once again gets a line with the fluffy animal in it. If you want to make sense of the film, this is all you need to know:
The hungry rabbit jumps.
You're damn clever, well connected!
It could well have been a nod to Con Air since he was running from law in that too. Had to put this in spoiler because he isnt running from the law until later in the film
Beate wrote: Funny that after "Put the bunny back in the box" he once again gets a line with the fluffy animal in it.

Re: Justice
I too thought that it was a perfectly fine thriller not brilliant but OK. I don't tend to over analyse films just enjoy them for what they are. I've never seen January Jones in anything before and I was quite impressed with her acting. 7/10
It was nice to see akh43 again and meet her lovely daughter.

We all enjoyed this film, good and entertaining, better than Trespass, although I thought that was also good.
