Did I miss it or did they not even bother to give an update on what happened to Pete in the text bit at the end? I know they focussed the whole film on Billy but Pete was pretty instrumental to the whole thing.

I enjoyed it to an extent but there was too much technical language about the game that went over my head. Turns out not showing so much baseball in a baseball film but only talking about it means you still don't have much of a clue about things if you're not seeing them in action.

I still haven't seen "Warrior" but I do also consider "The Fighter" to be superior.

I can't enthuse as much as Jayman as whilst I did enjoy this film, I think it suffered firstly from comparison with Warrior and The Fighter, both of which I'd seen relatively recently and consider slightly superior and secondly, simply from being yet another film about sport and even if true in this case, seeming cliched and formulaic.

What made this particular film less appealing to me was that although there were interesting characters, their interaction was less satisfying and I've said before that it's not the subject matter but the human interest which hooks you - or doesn't. The baseball was neither here nor there to me; it was just the framework but the characters didn't build on it sufficiently. I wasn't wild about Brad Pitt playing the lead, either, but am not sure who would have been a better fit for the role. 7.5/10 from me.

I haven't seen any of the films you've mentioned but i do think Brad played the role really well, he had the energy for the fast scripting and held back emotionally really well.

Human interest wise you had Pitt's whole drama running through it butone thing i'd like to have seen more of was the baseball players stories about what made the big teams reject them and a bit less number crunching.

I only rated those two 8/10 compared to 7.5/10 for this, so it was a close shave. And who knows, had I seen this film first or second and not third of the three, I might have felt differently. But this one was definitely unevenly paced and felt less cohesive.

Yeah i agree, where was Pete's big fat offers and yeah the baseball thing did get a bit too much at times.

Back from Cineworld Glasgow. It was pretty full (about 80%) once the film started. Older crowd but did see a couple of girls about 10 years old. Not sure if I would had taken anyone younger than 12 to this. It is long and could had easily stopped when the baseball season had finished for Oakland Athletes but it didn't and went on for another 20 mins telling us what happened immediately for Beane. The film also jumps from 2001/2002 and to when Beane was a player and I am not sure whether I liked that or not. I agreed that there is no character developments with any of the players which might help the story more. Actually at first I thought they would do that but they didn't. I like baseball and I like statistics but there was something missing for me. 7/10

After being directed to screen 16 and watching 10 minutes of snowtown ( which was pretty grisly and I was living in Australia when the bodies in the barrels were found and it looked ok lol) we were apologetically given the correct screen lol. I enjoyed moneyball, a real feel good film, knowing nothing about baseball I still followed the story with interest. 7/10 for me :)

I guess what helped me enjoy the movie a bit more than everyone else is that I grew up on Baseball movies. From "The Bad News Bears", to "The Natural", "Bull Durham", "Field of Dreams", "Major League 1 & 2", "A League of Their Own" & "The Rookie", I managed to understand pretty much all the jargon. 2 months back I even had the honor to sit in Yankee Stadium and see the Baltimore Orioles get demolished by the New York Yankees. Make no mistake though, Baseball is an incredibly boring game! But understanding the fundamentals definitely helps one derive a little more satisfaction from the movie.

Oh dear, WIQ was indeed freezing cold. I was also surrounded by the 2 most grumpy people in the theatre (yes, you soonforgotten and a_person)... they could have killed all those munchers and mobile phone checkers with their eyes!

I don't understand much about Baseball (I got the stats bit though) so I have probably missed some of the strategic (this one i for you sf ) decisions, but it's fair to say that the cinematography, acting and script are well worth the watch!
