I don't think so, but as far as I know TKAAR did not get any best picture oscar ;)

I was more thinking Brit culture... TTSS was a book/TV success here, I doubt it was the case in the US, hence it might not be as well received, but I might be wrong!

Regarding TKAA I was talking Oscar nominations for best picture, not actual wins.

True regarding TTSS.

Harry Potter might get something as it's the final one? was it the third of the LOTR films that got the nods wasn't it?

HP might get some technical awards, but there's zero chance of a Best pic award

All LotR films had Oscar noms, but the third one the most and won 11 of them.

Though none of them warrant an award for good film making, I've always thought Potter films ought to win something for costume and background effects, their strength has always been these two things. Style of substance? Yes true, but few special effect creations get as close as a fullblown Hogwarts castle, thats on par with any location in Middle earth movies.
fav 5 films of the year - Tenet, Bill n Ted 3, Invisible Man, JoJo Rabbit, ?

I agree. LotR has won best picture (which I fully agree with) but Harry Potter has its strength primarily in costume and design.

The picture is clearing a bit (pardon the pun), but it's looking like the contenders are The Artist, War Horse, The Descendants.
J Edgar and the Iron Lady are looking more and more likely to be only contenders in the acting categories.

there is so much buzz about The Artist now that I can't wait to be on the 30th December; if Luke doesn't give us free tickets for this I will very happily p*y to see it!!!

(I really did not care much about the descendants)
