Direct from Sau Paulo, Tulipa is Brazil’s latest gift to music - a talented young singer-songwriter whose playful tropicália pop draws on 1970s roots. Combining rich vocals with catchy melodies she’s backed by a tight-knit band driving out rock, pop and electronic grooves.

In a rare London appearance Tulipa (her name means Tulip) and band perform tracks from her debut album Efêmera (Totolo / HarmoniaMundi). The critically acclaimed release (which topped Rolling StoneBrasil’s list of the Best Album of 2010) featured a stellar cast of top young Brazilian artists including Ceu, Mariana Aydar, Thalma deFreitas (Orquestra Imperial) on backing vocals and Kassin on bass, along with her father Luis Chagas (from Itamar Assumpção’s band Iscade Polícia) and brother Gustavo Ruiz on guitars.
