Re: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
Saw this at yesterday in stratford westfield, and reallyyyy enjoyed it! It wasn't as tough as i expected but if your really faint-hearted, don't see it. Rooney Mara is terrific as Lisbeth in the lead role and, at 158 minutes, it was entertaining enough to speed by! 9/10 Check out my review here:

the first thing i said when i heard about roony mara playing this was that she'll never touch noomie rapace and i'm happy to say she didn't. well not exactly happy but well, i like being right.
she wasn't anywhere near as tough enough, too emotional and didn't come off anywhere near as standoffish as she should have.
i really can't see the point of this re-make. The original in Swedish is much better even if it does mean i have to read the subtitles.
Was also a little disappointed with the score - they used the same thing in one part as they did in the social network and it irked me enough to not manage to listen properly to the rest. i'm getting the soundtrack though to listen some more - it is up for an oscar.

Re: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
I agree with that you say aruif, much prefered the original film and the original actors. Probably didnt help already knowing the story as most of it was the same, but I think the original was much grittier and dark and the dragon tattoo seemed so small compared to what I remember in the original. Also didnt like the opening sequence, too hollywood, probably spent more on this than the whole original film.aruif wrote:the first thing i said when i heard about roony mara playing this was that she'll never touch noomie rapace and i'm happy to say she didn't. well not exactly happy but well, i like being right.

Re: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
There's not much terribly wrong with Fincher's version, but for me it just comes too soon after the excellent Swedish film, which is still fresh in my mind. So this feels like a shiny but hollow copy. Rooney Mara is okay but dammit, Noomi Rapace IS Lisbeth, and that's that. I also found Trent Reznor's score a bit of a let down, it's not awful but also nothing that blew me away. It's still a decent thriller, 7/10.

i actually fell alseep about 3 times! 3 whole times! in one film!
i agree, it's not terrible, just pointless, it didn't better it. it changed a few bits and stole some bits from the 2nd book too if i recall correctly. the ending was too long and slow too.
i probably won't bother watching this one again, i'm going to invest in the extended versions of the originals on blu ray instead.

Re: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
The book arrived this morning!
Also with regards to the swedish version of the film, I recently won the DVD from a Momentum facebook comp and one of the features is that it has an english language audio track on it so people that don't like subtitles can now watch that too if they want to compare. Although I've not got it out the cellophane yet so don't know how good or bad the dubbing is

Re: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
I must admit, not even having seen the film, i am a bit put off by Rooney Mara's completely overdone face, shes not Lisbeth, she looks like a Borg from Star trek. Appallingly bad move by the director. Thats Hollywood, take a great idea and make it middling.
fav 5 films of the year - Tenet, Bill n Ted 3, Invisible Man, JoJo Rabbit, ?

Re: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
I loved the original film but am off to see the remake with low expectations - which hopefully will mean I won't be disappointed. Interesting reading the reviews though, so maybe it won't be as bad as I think! I just feel the original was so good it can't be topped, and why remake a film with the same story, characters and Swedish setting, but in English? I'm not sure why I'm p*ying £7.60 to see this now!!

My book arrived today too. Thanks for posting.elski wrote:The book arrived this morning!Luckily I was just walking out the building just as the postman was trying to jam it into my postbox even though it was way too fat for it (& would never have turned the 90 degrees to drop into the box anyway). Re: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
I watched the Swedish version this morning in preparation of watching the new film tonight. Having seen the 2 films only 12 hours apart, I can safely say the remake is inferior in almost every way.
The performances are weaker. Craig seems to be sleepwalking through the entire film. I don't think he even emoted at all. It is such a lazy performance. Why does everyone have an accent except Craig?
Mara is good but not a patch on Rapace who had more raw energy and had a better developed relationship with Mikael.
The film is long, and it feels long, with an unnecessarily extended running time which includes scenes that show a different side of Mikael from the 2009 version but detract from the central story. The unravelling of the whodunit clues do not seem as gripping as they were in the original film. The mystery seemed rushed and underdeveloped. The final revelations felt unsatisfactorily explained. Had I not seen the original, I think I would have been disappointed with the third act.
The rape scenes, IMO, were equally brutal in each film.
6.5/10.
