We're coming down to the big smoke for New Year so we could have done a flat swap but as i've just got this confirmed, may have been a bit short notice.

Any Londeners out there with tips on tasty affordable places to eat out around the Hemel Hempstead area?
That's a shame yeah I'm all booked going for my first trip to Scotland in the morning. Maybe next year?!

I don't know Hemel hampstead that well but if ur looking for something a little different to do I can recommend the ice bar. It's great fun. http://www.belowzerolondon.com/

Now that is different!!

Here are a few reccommendations for you in Auld Reekie -

If you like curry go to the Mosque kitchen, its on the corner of Nicholson Street and St Particks Square and you can get a buffet meal for a tenner. There are lots of nice curry houses in the Nicholson/bridges area, the other one i absolutely love is Kushis, opposite the roundabout at the top of London Road. Other nice eateries are Nargill in Hanover Street, does a fantastic Turkish Mez. Jolly for pizza, thats in Elm Row, Chinese takeaway is Ginger Express in Ferry Road.

If It not all about the food (thats just me i think) there are some lovely and unusual bars in Leith Walk. You could start at Pierces Bar, it's in Elm Row. The Victoria at the corner of Vicrotia Street and Leith Walk is just beautiful, its all decked out with trendy clothes on the walls and fairy lights everywhere. You can get a pottail in the Rose Leaf, thats at the foot of the walk if you walk towards the shore, its behind the Raj indian restaurant. If your feeling brave the Port of Leith is famous for its characters and you get some great bands in Nobles next door, they are both in Constitution Street. As you can probably tell, i'm not an uptown girl at all.

I hope you have a great time o/

for anyone who's interested, my London trip is going well. Wandered around Shepards Bush yesterday and had a delish Somalian meal at The Blue Oceon restaurant finishing off with coffee and cake at an Algerian cafe. We ended up staying at a hotel near Heathrow Airport but have come into Hemel Hempstead tonight. We're eating at a friends tonight but are heading into London tomorrow.

Anyone else with hints or tips for good restaurants beside Tussauds still welcome o/

(We are all round at Havingascreen's flat having a party with her out of town - don't tell her though - she'd be livid. Oh, that stain on the lounge carpet - it wasn't me! Biggins spilled her red wine. Oops. Someone's just been sick. Do her neighbours usually get so upset about a little loud music? Hopefully she'll never know we've been. No crumbs. Now Marjoree's singing again. Yinster's fallen asleep. Too much gin.)

Had a fantastic time in Edinburgh. Cheers for the tips. o/

People are so nice in Edinburgh so different to London.
My poor friend had never done a city break and was moaning as I dragged her everywhere walking. :bwl:
Its a beautiful city tho. And will definetly go back in the summer to see more of the city.
We done all the tourist things. The castle, charlton hill, princes street. Edinburgh dungeons , mark king close ( which was really interesting !!). camera- obscura and the open top tour bus.

The street party on princes street was fantastic. But we didnt go to primal scream we opted for mark ronson instead and we were so lucky with the weather it stayed dry until well after midnight. Such a friendly crowd couldn't believe no pushing or shouving and if someone did push u by accident they simply said sorry, happy new year and hugged u. So different from past experiences of big crowds like that
We made it just in time on Friday for the torchlight procession. Which was amazing.

And we went down to the loony dook on Sunday morning but we weren't brave enough to go in the sea. Those people are mad !!!!!

The camera obscura was great fun to do. We loved the part where u stand in the room and one of u is huge the other person tiny. We took so many photos in that place.
We even went to a shop next to the castle and dressed up in full kilt outfits and get our photos done. They r funny. We r attacking each other with swords.

Can't wait to go back.
