An average thriller with a ridiculously implausible ending. 5/10

6.5/10 from us - a good evening out - the film was great in places - it was an interesting premise that led you to have less and less sympathy for Clyde as the film went on. The ending though was too ridiculous and did let down the film quite a bit.

It is funny how we all have different tolerances - it was definitely 18 material as far as I was concerned - I could not watch at some points - especially
the scene where he kills his cell mate with the plastic fork – all that blood
- too much for little old me! :red:

It was pretty full at the Reading Showcase – and most of the audience seemed pretty engaged and entertained by it – someone near us practically jumped right out of their seat when
the judge answered her mobile phone
– even though you were expecting it that moment did have my heart in my mouth – I think it was enhanced by the fact that we were sitting quite near the front on that one. 8O

Certainly not a classic – but a good evening out – and I agree with others that have said it was a nice change from the Rom-Coms!

I'm surprised to see such mixed reviews on this one - I loved it! A bit gory in places (definitely an 18)... and talk about starting with a bang! Of course (as with many thrillers) there were times which were somewhat less likely or realistic, but there's a lot to be said for
a father scorned. Clearly he went a bit doolally. And why not tunnel under the whole prison? He had ten years afterall. I mean come on, in Shawshank the dude dug his way out with a spoon!
It reminded me a little of Taken in terms of how tense it was. I also jumped, even though I expected it, when
the Judge answered her phone. Almost deserved it with that line! Sheesh!
Overall, loved it - a healthy 8/10.

I saw it at Holloway Road only because my friend's plus 1 dropped out so will be seeing it again with hubby in a couple of weeks. Can't wait! Holloway Road is freezing (their heating is broken), it was only about a third to half full and it was a tiny screening room. Doubt I'd go there again - it's MILES from the station!
"Oh, sweetheart, you don't need law school. Law school is for people who are boring and ugly and serious. And you, button, are none of those things." - Legally Blonde

Preferred cinemas: Most Central London, Finchley Road, Swiss Cottage, Islington, Holloway and West India Quay, Greenwich (O2 / Odeon only) or Stratford City if there is nothing else!

Seen free in 2012: Jan: Margin Call; J. Edgar; Like Crazy; Carnage; Young Adult. Feb: The Muppets; The Best Extotic Marigold Hotel; Safe House; Project X; Beginners. March: 21 Jump Street; We b*ght a Zoo; Wild Bill; John Carter; Wanderlust; Street Dance 2;The Hunger Games; [The King's Speech]. Apr: The Hunger Games; Battleship; Salmon Fishing in the Yemen. May: What To Expect When You're Expecting; MIB3. June: [We Will Rock You] July: Ted; Seeking a Friend for the End of the World; The Dark Knight Rises; Brave. Aug: The Bourne Legacy. Sept: Lawless

Oooh, I did really like Taken. If it's anything like that I'd I'm sure it was good.

Yeh MariaLionza said it's not a great cinema either! Awww poor you. Hopefully it will be better next time. Most of the screenings (with the exception of Ing Bas) were in very small screens! That's why I prefer my SE London screens, they generally tend to be bigger.

And the cello was central in "An education" too.. What's with all the cellos??

Saw this last night at the Leeds Showcase, and thought it was OK, but unrealistic. The people I went with thought it was ace, and were not concerned that it was unrealistic, as it is "only a story". Oh well - we all look for different things in a movie!

Gerard Butler's role was interesting, as he was a co-producer, as well as an actor. He trained as a lawyer, and I suspect he is less than impressed with the 'plea bargain' system. Also, I thought his character was Clive, but having read JazzyC's post, I checked, and it is Clyde. After the river near his home town. I think he is having a bit of fun!

Thanks a_person, but it wasn't so bad. Managed to forget about the cold as I was gripped most of the time. I'd def say it's as tense as Taken, though Taken might egde ahead slightly. But only slightly. Roll on my second viewing!!

I saw this last night at Surrey Quays, I don't normally like violent films, but I really liked this one. Even though I had to watch some of it from behind my hands as I got really jumpy especially
when the judge answered her phone and the bit where they found the tunnel into the prison, I was convinced that Clyde was going to jump out from somewhere!!
I would give it 8/10 o/

Saw it last night at the Showcase in Leicester, should have started at 7.00, but the screen they were using was still showing another film til 6.50!!!! The long queue snaked acround the cinemas was rather amusing!

Thought the film started OK but the end was a bit of a let down, 7/10, don't think much of the Philly Prisons :p

I think we all know which bit made us all "jump" ;)
I want a phone like that, so I could lend it to someone I know
