Re: Weight Watchers
Just wanted to say I went through the first pages of this topic and found the link to the Dietgirl's blog - I think Beate mentionned it actually (thank you!).
I'm reading the first pages of Shauna Reid's book, this is impressive. She defines her feelings so well, she's done such a great psychological analysis. I am not obese, yet I find (like most of us, I guess) lots of similitudes between her childhood and mine, between her way to compensate and comfort herself with food and how I used to do the same. Also - and that's the most weirdly point to me, I spent whole 2011 doing this too: focusing on why I was behaving like this or that, understanding my functioning, and getting over it (that's probably because going to the psycologist is friggin' expensive!).
Our behaviour with food has usually an explanation. It's not only about greediness and tastes, but about compensation. If you find the flaw, you'll be able to overcome it :)
And now, back to the garlic bread and the fudges, kids.

Ms Thrifty wrote:Some great advice from a nutritionist which I hope Mr G will endorse and which I think worth sharing:
"There is plenty of research to show that if you feed one group mostly fatty food, and another group mostly carbohydrates, it is the fatty food group which loses weight – even though both groups have eaten the same number of calories. This is good news to anyone who enjoys eggs and bacon or plenty of butter on their (good quality) bread or vegetables, but bad news for food manufacturers who make vast profits from sales of sugary frosted cereals, instant porridge or low fat margarine.
The Government has been telling us to eat less fat (to save our waistlines from expanding and arteries from clogging) for the past 30 years. The result of following this advice is clear to see. It hasn’t worked; we have got fatter. This then begs the questions – “What if the low fat message is wrong?” By eating less fat, we automatically eat proportionally more of something else – usually carbohydrate.
However, this carbohydrate no longer comes in the form of potatoes, oatmeal, carrots, beans, lentils and barley, but as highly refined sugars and processed starches. These are added to obvious foods such as fizzy drinks, ice-cream, breakfast cereals and biscuits, and also to pasta sauces, soup, baked beans, fruit yogurts and as a thickener in low fat margarine!
If you try to steer clear of meat, milk, butter, eggs, Brazil nuts, pumpkin and sunflower seeds, olive oil and mackerel because of the fat they contain, maybe it is time to try something different?"
I hasten to add that if you read this carefully, you will see that it isn't a licence to eat fat; rather, it is explaining why the focus on avoiding/reducing fat and sugar intake may not work.
i lost almost 4 stone by eating a low gi diet. low goi usually means higher fat and protein foods get eaten though, at least for me it did as i didn't want to just eat vegetables and salad!

Re: Weight Watchers
Could you post it up here Aruif, currently looking for a more healthy way of life but i love things like butter and bread so have to get these in at some points.
Luckily i like fruit and veg too so can incorporate those easily. I need to get better at shopping and planning meals and choosing healthier when i'm eating out.
I'm going to start on Thursday, It'll have more chance of success according to psychologists
...and Glassy i'm of course going to get more exercise into my life, If i avoid Monday screenings and go to zumba, do the hula hoop twice a week then build up to three times, have at least one big walk at the weekend and maybe even go swimming at least once a week.
Its fitting it into my life that is the challenge, seeing it as something enjoyable and not a chore and having the energy

Re: Weight Watchers
just google low gi foods really. basically it's low carb diet but some carbs are better than others like new potatoes not mashed potatoes etc. bread is always going to be the devil unless you like pumpernikle and linseed n stuff (i dont), heavily multiseeded bread is ok though, but not often i found.

Re: Weight Watchers
Ive started collecting my fitness stuff together in preparation before America
Got some 'hotpants' or compression shorts whatever you wanna call em!
Got 3 fitness DVD's done by jillian off Biggest Loser because she is one RELENTLESS trainer, and I do better when im being shouted at but would rather b*y a cheap DVD which I can use again and again as opposed to £30 per PT sessioon
Im going to go to the gym 3 times a week, AND Ive b*ght an ab roller so I can work my abs at home since my gym doesnt have one? :/ And I feel it works best on my abs (as well as other exercises ofcourse)
So here's hoping it has some effect!

I'm glad to see my alimentation is largely based on low gi foods... yet I'd love to lose weight nowaruif wrote:just google low gi foods really. basically it's low carb diet but some carbs are better than others like new potatoes not mashed potatoes etc. bread is always going to be the devil unless you like pumpernikle and linseed n stuff (i dont), heavily multiseeded bread is ok though, but not often i found.

Re: Weight Watchers
we have started fat club at work last friday. it's £1 a week and the person who loses the biggest percentage each month wins all the money.
don't even ask me what i ate over the weekend! (ok ok, 3 doughnuts, 6 slices of pizza, drank god knows how much JD).
i'm SO hungry today! i've had all bran, water, green tea, a carrot with some humous, a sausage sandwhich on wholemeal and i'm flipping STARVING!! i only have a fat free yougart, some pepper w/cottage cheese to get me through the rest of the day at work!
HELP! I'm worried i'll end up at the vending machine - which I hasten to add i've not used once in the 3 months i've been here!
