Really feeling relieved now that I've read all these reviews. Saw it at the LFF having great expectactions because of the award at Sundance, but it turned out to be a pretentious and boring movie. I found it impossible to sympathise with the two main characters as they were totally dumb in my opinion and did not convey any sort of love or passion whatsoever in whatever they did.

the trouble is even Haywire was better than this. I'm not sure it qualifies to be called a movie, the plot was one dimensional and totally unconvincing, their fight scene re his phone messages was verging on hilarious and by the end I certainly wanted a divorce if they still weren't sure. Very surprised by the Sundance awards!

The premise of the film promised an involving, interesting and moving story. Regrettably the screenplay (what there was of it) failed to involve the audience in the life of the couple. Much of the dialogue was spoken in almost a whisper, and even with the usual “loud sound” of a cinema, much of what little was said was indistinct. The blossoming romance was covered in such a way that the plot was never of interest, and therefore we could never really care what happened to the central characters. Basically a very simple story that, due to lack of dialogue and a lack of meaningful interaction between the other characters (the girl’s parents, the immigration officials, the other boyfriend and girlfriend) offered nothing in the way of character development or interesting storylines, and thus it was all a disappointing non-event.

But otherwise she loved it, whereas Danny Leigh made some really funny comment about them not having sustained a head injury so should have known better.

Claudia Winkleman is a noob. Don't know why they picked her to front such a show. I haven't watched it avidly since the demise of Barry Norman. Watched Rossy a fair few times but they started messing with times and day schedules till they lost me altogether
