A Dangerous Method

#1 Post by Celini » Tue Jan 31, 2012 9:37 pm

Thanks so much to Funthing29 for inviting me to the Premiere tonight! That was actually the oddest Premiere I've seen, as it was not a normal red carpet event but more of a private reception with press at they May Fair hotel. We've been treated with pretty decent Champagne and glorious nibble! Me liked it very much :D

We also had the chance to see Viggo, Keira and Michael (yeah, we are on a first name basis now  ).
First thoughts: Viggo looks old, Keira looks way too thin and rather scary and the Fass is his just gorgeous self (but damn short!), chewing a toothpick Driver_style while being interviewed. Cute!

Now about the movie, I found it alright but I doubt it'll work at the box office unfortunately, as it's an historical movie and there is not much of a plot; so if you are not interested in the birth of psychoanalysis you may get quite bored! That said for me Keira Kneighley was a revelation! I found her absolutely amazing (and I am usually not a fan) in her portrayal of Sabina Spielrein... but I am told her accent was extremely inconsistent (I am actually quite proud of myself for realising she had an accent!).
I also wish we'd seen more of Otto as I have a pretty damn crush on Vincent Cassel!

A very pleasant evening and a great company :)
8/10

We'd also like to thank funthing29 for allowing us to slip through on her coat tails to this special premiere and enjoy the sight of lots of photographers and fans shouting Keira, Viggo and Michael. We got to see the three stars for real inside and the drinks and nibbles were all first class, so thank you Mayfair Hotel. The film was wordy and felt too long and I wondered just how much was fact and how much was embellished to make more interesting (sexy). Actually I thought it became quite boring. But we really enjoyed the event and the nice company of funthing and celini.

I liked the reception provided by the Mayfair Hotel. Unlimited supplies of drinks and canapes. Since the press area was indoors, with no crowds or security, I just stood behind the interviewers and cameras to watch and snap pics of Michael, Viggo and Keira. Michael was adorably awkward and fidgety. The one thing I don't like about the Mayfair is the seating, which is rather uncomfortable with barely any legroom. So Celini and I sat in the front row with plenty of leg room and then the stars stood right in front of us to introduce the film. Michael has such gorgeous eyes.

I liked this. I studied psychology at university so was quite familiar with Freud and Jung and it was interesting to see a dramatised version of their relationship. The ideas were complex yet accessible to the audience. The script did well to explain all the psychoanalytic ideas without losing the audience and weighing the film down with too much scientific theory. I thought all the leads were excellent. Mortensen, despite limited screen time, oozed superiority and condescension whilst showing restraint. Fassbender portrayed Jung with arrogance, doubt and vulnerability. Knightley was surprisingly good but her accent was all over the place. Perhaps this will not be to everyone's taste but I think people's interest in the subject matter will be a good indication if they are likely to enjoy this. 8/10.

Unlimited drinks and canapes, eh? Why do they never provide them for the Telegraph screenings? *sulk*

We did comment that had pxc been there she would have managed to get right to the front of the crowd and had her photo taken with each star in turn.

I went to see this film today and although it was fairly long and at times a bit laborious I really enjoyed it. I thought Kiera Knightly was amazing. Considering I cannot stand her that's a pretty big statement! I was also really impressed with pretty much everyone.

I didn't enjoy kieras boobs though, she's too skinny needs some fat between her bones and skin imo. (See still don't like her really)

several beautiful shots in this too.
