I had a lovely freebie treat on Sunday, very last minuite too. I was invited to go and see Suggs - My life Story in words and music.
I highly recommend it if you can get to it. not sure if you can get freebies anywhere but keep your eye out! It's very clever and funny and informative, even if you're not a huge madness fan.

my friend is the guy who plays all the music :D so proud hehe.

I've been to a few shows recently:

The first being The Phantom of the Opera; This is a show I've been wanting to see for quite some time as I really liked the book when we read it in high school (though I thought the movie was pretty bad) and it didn't disappoint. I was so in awe with the voices of the leads, just wow! Christine's acting wasn't anything to write home about but when she was belting out the songs I probably literally had my mouth hanging open.

The costumes and set designs for this show were stunning, we had amazing seats (4th row from the front) so we could really appreciate the detail to them. I am not normally a girly-girl when it comes to dresses but there may have been drooling involved.

Storyline wise it felt much better than the movie, I'm glad I got to see this!

Yesterday I went to see this new pop rock musical After the Turn, which I originally got interested in because it's composed by Tim Prottey-Jones and I really like the music on his two CDs (which he mentioned several times during the Q/A afterwards hehe).

This was only the second preview and it's very much workshop theater as in that the show is still a work in progress, including lines being improvised during the show by the actors (and the writer mentioned some would be cut straight away never to be mentioned again hehe "bump bump squirt") and lyrics still amended. It was in the Courtyard Theatre and while it's great to sit very close to the stage I thought the sound quality was just awful. This was a real shame as the music was absolutely fantastic (it had a very Spring Awakening feel to it) but the lyrics could oftentimes not be heard correctly.

It's a really interesting show though with great potential and there were a lot of things I really liked about it (such as two actors playing the same character, one portraying what was going on inside his head) and the cast was fantastic; Ashleigh Gray (Elphaba in Wicked) has a stunning voice and Liam Doyle while not speaking for most of the show was amazing. But like I said, it's a shame the sound was quite bad as it could've been so much better. Hopefully that'll get fixed though as the show progresses. And I hope a full cast recording will be released (right now they just have an EP) as the music was very good and catchy.

Anyway go check it out and support new musicals! Tickets are only £12/£15: http://www.aftertheturn.com/

It was a lovely surprise to see Ms Thrifty at the show too! o/

Wow, aruif - what a great freebie! OH and I have been trying to see this, but any date/venue combination we can do seems to be sold out by the time we get the details and the autumn tour dates have yet to be published. Interesting to know you have a friend on the inside, too!

Were there any other FMUKers at Southbank Sinfonia's concert last night?
They were fantastic and the violinist (Tasmin - but not Little) in the Mendelsohn was amazing. Very moving! I had never heard of her before.

We went to finbar furey last night.
We had a brilliant time. Few drinks bit of dancing.
The support act was fab too. Tradition Irish music. My parents and aunt and uncle were like teenages. Hehe.

‘Back To The Future’ Heading To Broadway?

EXCLUSIVE: Will Robert Zemeckis’ 1985 classic Back To The Future become the latest film to get a Broadway stage production? I’m told that Zemeckis is in early talks with his co-writer Bob Gale and the film’s composer Alan Silvestri to explore a stage transfer. A stage musical would be an intriguing way to reintroduce a franchise which, over three films, grossed nearly $1 billion worldwide. Zemeckis’ ImageMovers would be involved if this goes forward. The time travel film, which starred Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd, holds up as well as the other live-action films Zemeckis directed. I’m still pissed that Universal scrapped the theme park ride based on the film. Silvestri, by the way, composed the music for such Zemeckis films as Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Forrest Gump and Cast Away.
