Then the security guards took our tickets of us at the actual screen and said just the ticket you keep the seeds, and then as the couple ahead were walking away he shouted after them "but don't eat the seeds!" :D I think they must have run out as later people coming into the screen didn't appear to be carrying them.

I thought the film was ok but didn't like it as much as others. I just didn't go deeply enough into anyone's story, but then that would have made the film too long. I think they should have followed through the eyes of just one person's with snippets of the other's stories as they saw them. Loved the shots of India and the hotel but even then they never even gave a tour of the hotel so it was hard to work out how many courtyards and rooms there were, I would have loved one sweeping tour following someone around, or from above or something.

6.5/10
Ha ha I got some seeds in the goody bag at the after party (after the premiere). I did think it was kind of random.
They should have been themed as Norman's seeds.

havingascreen wrote:I agree with lots thats been said about the humour, great characters and storyline. Was lovely to see a film that captured a cross section of society's aging population views about the aging process. The streets, hustle and bustle of the city and seeing inside these call centres brought the whole film to a very real level.

Metaphorically, Maggie Mmiths character was a perfect example of how some older people must feel useless and discarded by a younger, skilled generation. I applauded when she got the opportunity to use her skills again.

9/10 from me o/
I like your specific thoughts on the film so I am stealing your post to make it my own :P There was plenty to cheer about it actually. It was a lovely feel good movie. Charming, sweet and funny in a subtle way. The hotel may not be as exotic as advertised in the brochure but the cast are, with 2 Dames leading the splendid elderly British troop :)

Raj, you mentioned you would like to see more of the landscape of India but I think that would detract from the focus of the film which as HaV puts it, is about the hustle and bustle of the city, the chaos and its people. And as for those call centres, I admit I do have a hatred for the use of them, NOT towards them but its nice to see the film flesh out a reality of how they operate.

Very enjoyable 8.7/10

Oh I saw this at Wandsworth and it was packed to the brim. It surprised me to see how strict they were with turning off phones and I saw they were scanning us during the film. It just that this film doesnt strike me as the sort to demand this kind of security. I thought they would only do this for the bigger films.

Yeah we had two burly security men with their night vision and a really loud announcement on screen beforehand about the extra measures. In fact the whole film was very loud I thought maybe they'd turned up the volume for the older Classic FM crowd.

I think the film distribution company decides what security they do for films but strangely enough I was just googling for images to see a pic of the pack of seeds was online and I saw that top of normal google search for the title were two torrents for this already so that might explain & that it's already been targeted.

Film was excellent. Solid cast and for me it didn't feel rushed trying to work out the development of each character. Some laugh out moments especially since the audience were around the same age as the cast.

8/10
I hope you are not talking about me, Yinster! 8O
I have to say I really enjoyed this film. The characters were believable and the acting was great. Apart from The Muppets, I would defginitely rate this as the best this year. Thank goodness . . . there have been some real "turkeys" but this film is a shing star! I have already spoken to a few people on the phone and recommended it! I've got tickets for next Monday and may go and see it again!
Marks 8.5/10

They had this level of security at West India Quay as well. And as usual, they told us that the scanner would pick up on our phones if we didn't switch them off completely. Obviously not true as I ... uhm ... neglected to do so.

Even though they followed each character (and they intertwined) I still thought it was a bit weak.

I would have loved to see more of Judi Dench goings on / future. She was great as always....

I agree that we didn't see enough of the Hotel. (+more of the future of it and Dev)

I watched this in Greenwich. My friend and I really enjoyed it. I loved the script and the acting as well as the seats o/ When we came out of the cinema we realized how long the film was, but never felt long while watching it. I would say 8/10

Didn't really think from the trailers that this was my kind of movie but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thought Maggie Smith's character was brilliant and she definately got the best one liners in the film. The trailers made the film look a lot more "slapstick" and "farcey" than it was. The casting couldn't have been better and tho it didn't really go into any of the characters in depth, it has to be said that with so many good main characters it would have been impossible to do unless it ended up a Trilogy! We did tho have enough information about each of them to like and enjoy each of them. Although the storyline was predictable, it was still enjoyable and if I can get tickets for one of the next showings, I would happily take my mum and sit through it again. 8/10
