Do you mean the 02-cineworld?

Just seen this at Cineworld O2 - hmmmm not the worst film I've seen but by far the best. Although it was a heartfelt and warm film, it was just a bit too long then necessary I thought. It has a positive message of not giving up but it did get to a point I did wish the little boy would just give up... :)

I also got a bit grrrrr that it ended without finding out what was in the box which the bloody key opened!

Overall an okay film but could have been shorter and tighter in places.

I was concerned by those mixed reviews here and there but I'm glad I saw it!
I was mainly afraid of two things: watching a kid-actor who can't play/overplay, and watching a film without any real storyline.

Well first, I'm glad they didn't treat 9/11 as most films and media used it so far: the end of the world; terrorism attacking the most wonderful country in the world. Yes, what happened was a tragedy, but ELIC seems to have a far more 'human' approach if I may say.

Second: I loved the actors (except Bullock who only moved me a little bit by the end of the film, but I've always had a problem with her actually). I quickly found Oskar interesting. Probably cause I'm a bit autistic. I love Tom Hanks, yet I quickly forgot about him as I enjoyed watching Oskar and his grandfather's relationship - although Thomas Horn sometimes made me think of Haley Joel Osment too, which is not something I particularly appreciated. I would have liked to know more about this grandfather, what really happened etc, some pieces were missing... but his face, his love for the kid, this moving yet funny relationship is the peak of this story.

Third point: I'm sorry, I love tortured people. Weird people, too. The trauma. A kid unabled to do anything, to share his feeling, completely blocked by what happened and what traumatised him. I enjoyed this anger and anguish that exploded at the end, Oskar's urge to find an answer and to feel closer to his dad. And his inability (or naiveté) to get people's emotions at first. Lovely.

Only thing that bugged me:
Mum, you ask if there is any message on the answering machine but you don't check by yourself? And your kid gets the time to exchange the machine the night after without you noticing the red '6' on it beforehand? You come back home midday and he changes it the night after and you don't see it? What the hulahoop??
8/10

My friend gave it 3/10, though. There is no accounting for taste.

:rofl2: .......maybe that was the Extremely Loud? :giggle:

I saw this tonight in a full Showcase in Paisley. I have to say I agree with much of what Octopus has written (Is it 2 great minds think the same or fools seldom differ!?!)I "enjoyed" watching Oskar and thought his coming to terms with his loss in 9/11 was very realistic. I did feel a lot of sympathy for him as he struggled to cope with life.
The fact that he had been tested for Aspergers although said to be inconclusive, I think he almost certainly was, hence, the tambourine.
His relationships with people were very peculiar eg his grandparents. Thomas Horn played the part in a very convincing manner. The adult actors were almost the supporting actors to Thomas (Oskar).
Overall, I enjoyed the film and would not have been disappointed if I'd pa*d to see it!

Marks 7/10
Preferred cinemas: Best: Glasgow Quay, Glasgow Braehead, Glasgow Renfield Street, Glasgow Fort & Paisley
Others I'd go to: Glasgow Showcase Baillieston
