I've had the same email, so I'm assuming all John Carter Sky Screenings will have the same enforcements^^

I think the premiere was almost full, and unusually, the director and stars stayed and watched the film.

I think the director Andrew Stanton said that it was the first time some of the actors had seen the film. I think that some of the actors may have stayed for the Q and A as well as I saw Dominic West, William Dafoe, James Purefoy and Mark Strong in the foyer afterwards. DW was asking his kids if they enjoyed it - I didn't hear the answer!

Didn't want to see this, so got a ticket for a friend of mine for today in Coventry. He just got back and gave me a mini review:

Little disappointing.
Some good ideas, some good effects.
Characters were a bit thin.
Lot of talk.
Lot of talk would be a good thing if the characters weren't thin.

Got to O2 at 10am and the shutters of cinema was not even open, people were queuing very politely at bottom of escalators, and a few people were at the top of the stairs when a few minutes later the shutters came up at the top of the stairs so I ran up with some children. No one at the popcorn counter so grabbed the sky free popcorn and took the escalators up to the balcony. They were taking people's phones off them so a queue was forming. Then theMentalOne and friends joined me and we waited in the queue. The balcony filled up really quickly though.

I really enjoyed the film. Very cheesy and lots of loopholes, but I was engrossed, pure escapism for a couple of hours! Even the OH enjoyed it, who is hard to please, and we both gave it 8/10.

Lovely to see weirdy and catch up with MrG on the way out.

I have to agree with your friend's mini review, I thought the pacing was all over the place, it built up, it slowed down, it built up, it slowed down, lots of parts were rushed through like the battle scene at the end, which was also too heavy in special effects, when there is too much CGI in battle scenes they just become a blur, but other parts of the film dragged out. Also the kids found some parts of the story hard to follow and kept asking who was good and who was bad.

I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it, I am sure it probably works better as a book.

Attempt N3!!! Due to problems with the site today. The film wasn't breathtaking but it was entertaining. Didn't like the main character, the girl was much better! Some of the "Unearthy" looking creatures were quite good as well.... Some special effects were good and some looked ridiculous, not sure that was intentional....

Would be happy to watch it again, but unfortunately it's not local for us tomorrow ( nor it was today ).

For me, the best part of the movie revolved around John Carter's "pet"... I thought it was hilarious at times. Maybe I was just tired from an early wake up, but the film didn't keep me gripped at all and it was a long 2 hours.

The 3D was good at the start but became much less noticeable as the film went on.

Can't give it anymore than a 5

hmm. i thought the 3d was good (not that i am a good judge of these things) but the rest of the story was was too involved. lots of stopping to explain. I am still not sure why the 'priests' were on mars and they seem so pivotal to the plot. [spoiler]and absolutely no idea why they were on earth.[/spoiler]

i can only guess that the book is long and complicated. i just groaned at so many now obvious and cliched movie tropes. i think it could have been a modernising /updating of a 19C classic. but it wasn't. it kept the original themes with the modern visuals and left me thinking it was a bit boring.

but the 4 armed aliens were great to look at!

Surprisngly enjoyed this!
Thought the beginning was a bit slow going but it soon started to pick up.
The first appearance on mars, god that was funny, and looked slightly camp (my mate adds!).
The creatures I thought were good, I loved the mysteriousness(if thats a word) of the antagonists(if you can call them that) but would have like a more in depth look at who/what they were etc.
I think the most exciting part of the film was clearly the ending, the smart plan and unveiling at the end, should have been present in more of the film to be honest!

An honest 6/10, a good mix of action, some humour, but unfortunately marked down due to the thin plot(much like its martians!) and of course, the 3D doing bugger all as per usual!

Good film I enjoy it, give it 8/10, think I read somewhere that this is a trilogy so another 2 to go. Yep hee.
