Do you guys also find it weird that the movie was directed by the same guys behind "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs", especially given that it contained about 500 uses of the F-word and a never-ending series of dick jokes?

Jason Segel showed hid d*ck in a film then did Despicable Me.
No problem with the Meatball / Jump Street thingy.

Not quite the same thing. When you're acting, you're allowed be as versatile as you wish, but with writing and directing it just seems odd. It's like the studio execs saw "Cloudy" and then thought to themselves, "Hey those guys would be perfect for our raunchy '21 Jump Street' project".

Doesn't make sense to me.

Actually, Jason wrote both Forgetting Sarah Marshall (the movie Octo is referring to) and The Muppets (a family film). It's just one example of many though, clearly writers/directors want to be versatile too.

I completely agree that writers/directors would want to branch out, but don't the studio execs ultimately make all the calls?
I figured the reason they gave Jason the "Muppets" project was because of his musical talents and, purely based on "Forgetting Sarah Marshall", his love affair with puppetry.

Perhaps sometimes it's the writers/directors that go to the studios themselves either with a project idea or saying they're interested in something they know is in development? I'm pretty sure Jason pitched the whole Muppet idea because he's a big fan of the original show himself :)

Yes. He proposed the idea to Disney and they first laughed at him before realizing it was a golden opportunity.
Jump Street remake + a healthy Jonah Hill for the first time + everything that goes into this = golden project (or seemed to be)

Jason was partial stakeholder on "The Muppets" (executive producer).
That's probably how it came to fruition.

It was shown on TF1 in France, on Wednesday afternoons and I remember fighting over the remote control with my older brother who could not give a s*it about my massive crush for Depp, DeLuise and Grieco (awwww!)
yep July '89 and already snapping up the shows that we all wanted to see :x
yeah I remember the teen mags, Jackie, Just Seventeen, My guy etc having pull out posters of the guys from 21 Jump St which meant nothing to most people as few people had Sky. I've always known it was the name of a TV show but not what it was about.

Go ahead, make my day - by visiting my blog: http://jacobthehobnob.wordpress.com/

Member number 33 of the "100 free films in 2012" club. I saw 32, which is rather delightful.. I beat Mr. Glass on free films but he narrowly inched me out on total films seen.

Member number 33 of the "100 free films in 2011" club. I saw 20, interestingly enough. My more realistic target was to see more free films than TheyCallMeMrGlass. I lost.
