Sorry, was busy sleeping, then running through some deadlines coming up.
So, The Cabin In The Woods is the best film of the year. Utter utter genius. As someone who dislikes a lot of the horror genre, being scared is not something I like to do ever, I got a lot out of the geeky way Whedon and Goddard offered up their version of a horror film. All the trappings (especially of the bear variety), but with so much more smarts and care, and love for the protagonists than many "sexy teens die" films. We as an audience actually get invested, in fact we forget about the worryingly close to peril situation these people are in, and enjoy them.
Of course, when things really kick off, money shots abound and the film goes insane in a great way.
Say no more, indeed, but, yeah, film of the year so far.

Here's my review: http://londonfilmfanatiq.com/2012/03/10 ... the-woods/

It's pretty fuckin' spectacular.
102 Different free films seen in 2010 plus 2 repeat viewings and a few tv show screenings... not too shabby. Thanks to everyone for their contributions here.

I am intrugued by all the fantastic reviews (which don't spoil the movie, thankfully), can anyone clarify if it's a gory horror movie or a genuinely scary/jumpy horror one (or neither)? I am generally too much of a chicken to see horror films in cinema, but I am contemplating seeing this one and I want to be prepared to know if it's *very* scary or not.

I wouldn't say it's very scary. It has a few moments and it's got a fair share of gore, but I don't think it's anything too bad. Especially given the context.
