WOW, after reading these comments I would NOT have gone to see the movie..............Glad I saw it first, I thought it was really, really good, and better than what I expected. Nothing like 300, maybe a 'little' like Thor, then again I enjoyed Thor as well. I'm sure they'll make a profit on the movie, if not by viewership then DVD sales. I'll be getting it when it comes out on DVD too............

thanks to superhero i got to see this on thursday night.

a blonde tom hiddleston introduced an avengers trailer(the old one)
and i watched john carter with no expectations.
it was entertaining but never boring.
a bit too long maybe and my friend didnt enjoy it but the cast was strong and believable

if i had just see the trailer of the movie on tv i would not have gone to see this in the cinema but was
pleasantly surprised.
not sure its gonna make back all $250 mill it cost to produce though...

p.s. the screening wasn't soundproof, could hear the club next door quite clearly ;/

i won't be p*ying £15-17 for a ticket, not when the imax does it bigger, better and quieter!

Like many, I thought this was enjoyable. I wouldn't have pa*d to watch it though.
Story was good, interesting but a bit drawn out at times. I'm sure the kids will love it.
6/10

3D was good but it gets annoying having to wear glasses over glasses...
Guess its going to have to be contacts for Avengers... :wall:

Reminded me of Flash Gordon without the greatness of Brian Blessed or Queen. The acting was largely wooden and scripting quite terrible and while for me, this usually makes for an enjoyable watch, John Carter failed to engage at any level.

Its a sci fi film, so in the words of Sheldon Cooper “no, lets assume that they can” on various aspects, there are scenes that don’t make sense. Whilst escaping down a canyon from the local aliens, who moments ago possessed telescopic sighted lasery type rifles capable of shooting down rather large Airships, John Carter and Co manage to escape by out paddling the SPEARS that the aliens throw at them from top of the canyon.

Were the rifles in the repair shop? Did they leave them behind because they were in such a hurry?

Set pieces of fights wth big bads are cut to presumably reduce the age rating? One is reduced to literally, one shot talking, one shot jumping, one shot head landing. There is nothing here!

Costume design was very 1980’s with plastic armour (completed with feather shoulder pads) and a princess costume stolen from Prince of Persia and sprayed gold with added Christmas tree tack.

The Tourist did well overseas too at the box office. Their taste is still more governed still by big Hollywoods stars or big budget special effects.

I thought the film was mediocre. Brit actors always seem to play the baddies!
