Saw this tonight at The Hospital Club. Lovely comfy room, but good to know the prices of popcorn are universally extortionate. Anyway, I digress....

Not sure what to make of it. It's super cheesy, but then I'm impressed that some bloke dreamt all this up in 1911 (thank you wiikipedia). What an imagination. Makes sense that so many stories have drawn on this... So the good: scenery, the 'Earth story', the Tharks (which sort of look like turtles if you ask me!), the effects most of the time... The Bad: cast a bit stilted in places, the aforementioned cheese, the length - is this really aimed at kids?! - and too many loopholes / unanswered questions (maybe it is aimed at kids)... The Ugly: not that bad really, so no ugly.

Oh, and I feel a sequel coming on. 5.5/10
PS If the Deja and John have kids, will their kids have purple blood?

PPS Mildly disappointed there was no Noah Wyle. He is the one and only (Dr) John Carter in my eyes.
Oh, and also...
When she's in her wedding outfit, does she say she's wearing the traditional dress that the grooms mother might wear??
Or did I create that in my head??

Disney in $200m writedown for ‘John Carter’

The film based on the Edgar Rice Burroughs novel about an American civil war hero who journeys to Mars is shaping up to be one of Hollywood’s costliest flops

I was thinking to see the 3D version (have free ticket) but not sure if can see it in the first week. (NGP rules ??)

I hope not... anywho, don't think Disney can afford to lose the mega bucks again.

Well, now that the figures are in, probably not. Otherwise, there's definitely scope in the story for a sequel!
