There is a book series
Burroughs began writing the Barsoom books in the second half of 1911, and produced one volume a year between 1911 and 1914; seven more were produced between 1921 and 1941.[1] The first Barsoom tale was serialized in The All-Story magazine as Under the Moons of Mars (1912), and then published in hardcover as the complete novel A Princess of Mars (1917).[2][3] The final Barsoom tale was a novella, Skeleton Men of Jupiter, published in Amazing Stories in February 1943
So if John Carter was successful a sequel would probably had been on the cards. However by using a huge budget and being hit with a big loss this is highly unlikely now. Film itself was a decent attempt but this is overshadowed by the news of the loss of revenue.

sad there wont be a sequel even though i didnt like this one. It would have been an improvement, and its Burroughs story are a rich vein that needs tapping.

Don't understand all the hatred for this. I thought it was pretty good! Not brilliant, but definitely enjoyable.
A satisfying diversion for an overcast Sunday night.

I echo your sentiments. I absolutely hate the balcony! And what makes the 3D screenings even worse are those infernal 'stars' up on the ceiling which add even more glare to the 3D glasses. Sure the seats are comfy and the legroom is wonderful but I'd rather have a better viewing angle.
