If that's the case they should've mentioned this and asked if the attendees minded not sitting together. Actually my mum got there at 14:20pm and managed to get two seats next to each other so I don't think it matters unless the show is very busy or maybe people are printing off duplicate tickets.

I suppose they wanted to have a few performances first to get into the routine of a new location (and possible cast changes) before press night.

I went to see the Duchess of Malfi on Saturday and really rated it. It is very tragic (and just a little bit too long) but it was so atmospheric and wonderfully staged, I was absorbed the whole time. I can see why it might be off-putting to some, but the performances are good and I still think it's worth going even if it's not your usual thing.
What I always seem to forget about the Old Vic though is how chilly it gets after a while, so even if it's warm outside, take something to wrap up in for inside!
