The Cabin in the Woods
Re: The Cabin in the Woods
Just returned from Westfield Vue Stratford. Not sure about the film....Good bits, bad bits - should really be defined as either "comedic horror" or "traditional horror" Cast Performance 7/10 -- overall film and story 6/10

Re: The Cabin in the Woods
Oh I don't know. I really expected more. The first 2 thirds were rather intriguing as you could see from the start that it wasn't a run of the mill horror film but I am afraid the last third was so ridiculously over the top that I couldn't take it seriously at all anymore. It was also way too gory. But there wasn't much scariness, I didn't jump once, but the violence came so sudden that I gasped. Interestingly, it was also in parts really funny, which felt wrong, I laughed more than I should in these films.
And as for this film's cameo, is that all Sigourney does these days, pop up in vaguely sci-fi films? Really just made me laugh.
And the ending?
The world just ends now or what? So why couldn't she simply shoot him?
Also, it really annoyed me that the one girl was referred to as slut or whore by several people. She wasn't. She was just a normal girl with a boyfriend.
7/10
Vue Islington was pretty full tonight but there were still plenty of seats left in the lower part so I told the usher exactly what I thought of his suggestion that we all move up one seat to create 2 empty seats next to each other. I was in this row first. I chose my seat carefully. I didn't leave any empties. I will NOT move for latecomers, thank you very much. His attiude was so bad. "This is a free screening." Exactly, which means I have free choice of seats, so bugger off.

Just watched this with a few friends at an 80% full cheshire oaks.

Nice twist for a modern horror movie.

Well that was the point wasn't it? I don't think that 3rd act was meant to be scary or serious. I really did feel it was meant to be funny. And intentionally funny, in line with the rest of the movie. Also the gore aspect? I think i'm desensitized to gore now but it didn't get to me at all. Perfect retribution that was perfectly entertainingBeate wrote:Oh I don't know. I really expected more.
She wasn't a whore, no. But they made her one in order to complete the ritual. At the start they talked about how they added some cognitive brain function reduction chemicals to her hair dye and then gassing her with pheromone smoke. Without that then yeah she would've been a normal girl. She wouldn't have been made into her horror movie persona and the ritual couldn't have been one
Also, it really annoyed me that the one girl was referred to as slut or whore by several people. Re: The Cabin in the Woods
Seems like there's quite a few who enjoyed this... but I didn't. Thought it was a bit 'meh?'
Could've been really good but just didn't live up to expectation.
I never saw any trailers or read anything on the film. The build-up was quite good but just seem to taper off into the expected and the ridiculious. Think I got more scares out of 'Bug' over the weekend!
CITW gets a 3/10 from me.

Re: The Cabin in the Woods
Loved this. Great twist. Teeny bit silly ending, but by the time you get there you kinda expect anything. I was sort of expecting old George Burns to pop up as a cameo and reprise his Almighty persona.
The "Gremlins" scene referred to earlier was total mayhem but anything less than that would have looked more daft.
Very funny in parts - especially the speakerphone bit!
I'm seeing this at least once more next week. Definitely! Well worth a view, but to reiterate - best not to see or read anything about it.
8.5/10

Re: The Cabin in the Woods
Watched at Stratford VUE tonight. Thought it was OK. The generic horror shlock for the first half was boring to say the least, but I loved the ending...well, everything up until the grand revelation at the end. That sucked.
Westfield Stratford VUE is a stunning theatre. I hope they have more screenings there. This was one of the smaller 120 seaters but still first-class in terms of quality and comfort. The sound was top notch too. Just one criticism. The chatty lady sitting next to me was a right nuisance with her crackly McDonalds burger. And during all the "scary" bits, she was screaming. Loudly! The whole theatre could hear her. As if the screaming wasn't enough, her legs and arms were flailing like she was having a seizure. I would love to say it was hilarious but no, it wasn't. It was frightening. More frightening than the movie, in fact! Stuff that wouldn't have normally given me the jumps had me downright petrified because I was afraid this lady was going to stab my eyeballs out with her 'Lost in Space' robot arms.
Anyway, did you guys seriously find this scary? I thought it was funny! Joss Whedon is clearly a fan of Sam Raimi's tongue-in-cheek horror style.

Re: The Cabin in the Woods
This was my first outing in several days as I've been ill. Full house in Cardiff think there was one seat left.
Loved the film. Funny, scary, and
no happy ending
after all it was called cabin in the woods so was expecting something horrible. The plot.... well wont go into that too much but they pa*d a bit of homage to other good horror stories. Looked like a who's who - we did a bit of guess the film the monsters came from.
Sorry but after the last few days of my gastro attack the visual gore 'fest' had no affect on me.
Would see again 8/10
