Re: Weight Watchers
Has anyone tried spinning classes? I want to but I'm scared that it will be really hard?? I've been going to the gym 3 times a week for a while, but I don't want to be the only person in the class that can't cope!!

Re: Weight Watchers
Well, I am hideously unfit and hate any form of exercise so maybe take my experience with a pinch of salt
I have done 1 spinning class once. And I almost fell of my bike with exhaustion halfway through! It was so hard! You do really feel like you've had a proper workout though and if there aren't too many people in the class it's quite good.

Re: Weight Watchers
I went to ‘back care’ with a friend at JJB’s (now DW) as she didn’t want to go alone. I thought my back was find but was told my vertebrae at quite close together so avoid exercise where you lean over such as cycling/spinning but rowing where you pull your arms back is good.
If you are at a gym get someone to check your posture/back and advice you which is your best exercise, or what to avoid.
So no spinning for me but by the look of the people that do spin its hard work
.
Also did you know DW have an offer on at the moment 12 days for £12….i just signed up and its day 3…feeling rather sleepy now but must fight it as I pick the children up very soon!

Re: Weight Watchers
I havent done spinning classes but I have tried out other classes such as kick boxing aerobics and such. I have been unable to keep up in the first few sessions and it seems like I was the only one, what made it even more embarrassing in my mind was that I was only one of 2 blokes amongst 10-15 girls who all seem to have no problem keeping up with the moves! But I persisted with the class and after a few sessions, I realise that the embarrassment was all in my mind. Why? Because in later lessons there were other newcomers and most of them couldn't keep up either. Basically, you're NOT expected to keep up first time, so you shouldnt fear it. Go try it out and then decide if you enjoy it :)AnneJ wrote:Has anyone tried spinning classes? I want to but I'm scared that it will be really hard?? But take note of Allsigning comment about the back, as that seems like a really good point. I often have some difficulty bending my back so I dont think I'll ever consider it!

Re: Weight Watchers
I love spinning I haven't done it for a few years (changed the times of the classes and I couldn't make it); we had a brilliant instructor who made you push yourself safely and was very keen on your posture so to reduce the risk of injury. If you start to feel tired you can just sit and pedal until you've got your breath back. Have funAnneJ wrote:Has anyone tried spinning classes? I want to but I'm scared that it will be really hard?? Thanks eveyone for the advice on spinning, I think I might leave it till after christmas when I'm a bit fitter. I tried the stair machine at the gym last night for the first time, I was so paranoid that I was going to fall off the back I ended up gripping the rails like a lunatic!!! but it definitely worked on my legs cause there're a bit achy this morning

Re: Weight Watchers
Well how's everyone doing with their weight loss/fitness?! Xmas is looming near and I believe its now, and not after xmas, that we should spur each other on to lose the fat before the ferocious attack of the killer xmas pudding!
I say let the xmas party be the reward for our hard work in losing weight, rather than it be a devastation that we have to try recover from :) That's not to say we should over indulge at xmas but as long as we still keep our calorie intake in check we can devour that unfortunate turkey and pudding, mmm.
My progress so far is that I've lost another 1.3kg in the last week which is on par the rate I'm going so that's now a stone I've lost since starting 4 weeks ago.
My shins started to hurt recently everytime I run on the treadmill. After a bit of internet research, I discovered I may have some sort of shin splint injury which is a common runner's injury. I b*ght a new pair of running trainers, and lo and behold, I do not feel the pain in running anymore! Damn, its so important to run with proper running shoes even on a treadmill! These new ones I got are so comfortable and I can feel the support all round. It does make me feel a bit taller though. For those interested in what I got, its the Nike Air Max Tailwind 2009. It got excellent reviews and I agree with them though I cant vouch for its longevity since I only got them last week and I have had some Nike shoes in the past that didnt last as long as they should. On the net, its going for £70-£80 but I got them for £49 from JD Sports on the high street who were doing a sale on them and looks to be still on sale:

Well done theycallmemrglass! Wow, 1.3kg in a week!!
I've lost another 0.5kg which isn't a lot but at least it's coming off again after 3 weeks of nothing happening!
