Here's an idea. Why don't they film the key dialogue scenes twice over - once in foreign and once in English? Wouldn't actually take much more effort and they'd make so much more money making the American version redundant. Job done.

What an excellent film! We loved it. And the make-up people should definitely win awards.

Yep. and she replied in russian! There were a couple russian phrases in the movie, including some swearing.

The books are great, with a fantastic anti hero who deserves to be up on the screen

Thanks for your reply Valda. I don't get the time to be on here as much as I would like, and don't always get the chance to check for replies.

I do love the anti-hero concept far more than any hero-based movie. There's so much more that can be achieved with that.

I managed to get the free download to the book. All £20 worth of freebie, and 7 1/2 hours of pure entertainment. How brilliant is that.

I had to laugh at the Review show with Ian Rankin pointing out that the Jo Nesbo books just didn't say this, do another thing, or follow some University-taught regulation of pompous nonsense. Well, perhaps that's because viewers or readers want something other than a pre-agreed formulation that has been accredited by boffins. Perhaps that's why people are successful when they think out of the box and produce something original. I don't think Mr Rankin's work has translated as well to the screen as Mr Nesbo's has. Aren't Nesbo's books selling by the millions and beyond. A bit of jealousy there, I think. Can't wait to see the next movie based on his books. Couldn't say the same about Rankin's, though.

What a blast... I have recently started reading Jo Nesbo's books and so I wasn't really surprised by the film's "no holds barred" style. Totally unpredictable. I asbolutely loved it.....

Thanks for the code.

Man was the audience at PH Greenwich annoying this morning. We got there at 10.20am and they were just about to open so we got our favourite seats. It filled up very very slowly and I said to OH "why on earth is this in the biggest screen, this will never fill up!" But it did. I went to the loo at 10.45ish and there was a long queue snaking round the foyer because the Picturehouse insists on exchanging all SFF printouts for proper tickets, for reasons known only to themselves. If they want to keep a tab on seats issued, why not just count the printouts?

So we had lots of annoying latecomers, one woman in front of us who stubbornly kept the seat next to her occupied even though no one ever turned up, a very tall wheel chair user parked at the bottom of the stairs right in my vision but thankfully just out of the screen, and to top it all off, two girls coming in 20 minutes late, proceeding to sit down on the stairs in front of me. I am afraid I wasn't suffering that silently. I shooed them away and they went down a few steps but when a woman next to me got up and went out they probably thought she was reporting them and scarpered to the front row, which I had previously pointed out to them.

All this interruption annoyed me doubly because there were plenty of subtitles which you had to read quickly and I am sure I lost a few sentences with all this toing and froing at the beginning. Even people going to the toilet sometimes made me lose concentration. I don't usually mind subtitles but God, there were a lot of them.

Overall it didn't distract from the enjoyment of the film. It was very good even though I am first to admit that I didn't understand all the ins and outs. It also was a bit too gory for my liking towards the end but the ending was clever and saved it from just being a bloodbath. It's weird that I rooted for Roger even though he
was a thief and a triple killer
. It shouldn't be acceptable just because he did the first for love and the second out of desperation but you wanted him to get away with it. Though he wasn't even a very good man, cheating on his wife he supposedly loved so much.

8.5/10

An enjoyable thriller with some unexpected (and some predictable) plot twists. There were moments where credibility was stretched a bit too far, but I don't think that affected the overall entertainment value. The acting was great, and the protagonist, despite having dubious motivations, still managed to evoke sympathy. Riveting and suspenseful. 8/10.
