Free Theatre/Concert Tickets Discussion Thread
Re: Free Theatre/Concert Tickets Discussion Thread
I recall it as a really engrossing play because when I saw a previous production, some years ago, I'd been up all night (on night duty) but managed to stay awake for the whole 3 hours plus. What I can't now remember is much about the play itself, so time I went again.
Edit: this was at the Young Vic, in 1996, with Penelope Wilton and Richard Johnson. Anyone else see that one?

I think quite a few theatre goers were caught out as I noticed the ushers let in about 10 people - about 10 minutes into the play, one of them my OH, who was aiming for 7.15pm, when I frantically phoned him to hurry up as only when the bell went, did I realise it was starting early! It was definitely "oops!" for him, as I had arrived earlier to collect tickets. Also about 7.20pm, she let more people in (obviously anticipating people may be caught out), and was really noisy stomping up and down the stairs, opas wrote:My sister went to Noises Off last Tuesday, just told me all about it. She mentioned that there were a lot of stars including Ronnie Corbitt, Mary Portas and quite a few nameless socialites (or so she thought). Like prettyxcool she was also sitting in the grand circle, a little high for her liking but she was also surprised to see there was a higher level (goodness knows what they could see).
Sounds like it was a lot of fun and glad some forum members even had the privilege of sitting in one of the boxes! May I ask, what time did you collect your tickets for the box? I know there isn't really any method to how theatres distribute the SFF tickets but I'm just interested.
My sister also didn't realise it would be starting at 7pm but luckily got there about 6.20pm to collect the tickets. That could have been an "oops!" moment as she overlooked the time but got there early in any case.

Re: Free Theatre/Concert Tickets Discussion Thread
Thanks to June's kindness I've finally seen The King's Speech, which was well-attended and received. Despite what others have said about the differences, it seemed to me remarkably similar to the film - even down to much of the dialogue, though why waste good lines? It seems to be attracting a very multicultural audience, too, judging from all the various languages I could hear around me beforehand and during the interval; possibly this has a broader appeal than other straight plays though musicals seem to go down well with tourists. I did wonder though, and not for the first time, why theatres don't simply charge a little less in the first place rather than have to sell so many tix at half-price (I could see all the people in front clutching their yellow TKTS tix) and give others away. Not that I'd want to see the end of the SFF freebies, of course!

Went to Croydon tonight, to see Sense and Sensibility. I prefer more up-to-date plays, but the performance was very good. The theatre was packed. It was a nice evening spent with my sister and two daughters.

Hi Guys,
I'm off to see The King's Speech tonight at the Wyndham Theatre.
Can anyone let me know what time is best to pick the tickets up?
Many thanks,
HYD

My printout didn't have any ticket collection time on it so I went to the Box Office in advance to ask. They told me about 5.30 pm so I went back pretty promptly then, only to find they were already handing out pairs of tickets to lots of people, so I could probably have gone back sooner. All I can suggest is that you go earlier to ask if you can but otherwise get there as soon as possible after 5.30 pm.
On the previous occasion when I had tickets, for a different theatre, the collection time was on the printout and there was quite a queue of people in the foyer from some time before that, so it seems to vary.

What MsT said. I got mine at 6.30pm the night I went but I gather with TKS they'll often hand them out early, especially if there is a matinee.

Re: Free Theatre/Concert Tickets Discussion Thread
Before I went on holiday I saw Agatha Christie's Murder on the Nile at the New Wimbledon Theatre which was a competition win.
Unfortunately this was too long, too dull and the acting too terrible to be enjoyed. I did like the guessing game after the murder (although I figured out the quite obvious plot before the characters did) but unfortunately the murder wasn't until well into the second act and everything that came before was just mind-numbing. Very disappointing considering the fact that I was really looking forward to seeing my first murder mystery on stage
The actors also had a severe problem with projection which made some of them hard to understand.
5/10
