Re: Free Theatre/Concert Tickets Discussion Thread
Thanks again to Ms Thrifty and Anakin for replying re:The King's Speech. I took your advice and went to the theatre at 5.30pm to get the tickets.
Front Row of Royal Circle! Fabulous seats.
And what a production. I loved every minute of this and would have happily given a standing ovation at the end, had anyone else done so. Got the feeling that if I had stood up, others would have done so too, if not for the British reserve and all that, but I suppose now we'll never know.
Not sure if it was on here or elsewhere that a reviewer said the revolving stage added nothing to the production and was a distraction? Do not agree with this at all! I thought it worked brilliantly and saved stage hands from changing the set every 5 minutes.
Must watch the film again now to see exactly how close the productions were . . .

I saw All New People at the Duke of York's last night which was a lot better than I had expected. I'd read some reviews that made the play sound absolutely dreadful but I found myself laughing quite often and 'liking' all four characters. Zach Braff had surprisingly few lines compared to the other actors (particularly Eve Myles) but for his playwright debut he didn't do a bad job at all. Bonus: The clocked in at only 1.5 hours and had no interval. I would've happily pa*d to see it too. 8/10

The Great Gatsby thing (Gatz) at the Noel Coward theatre in the summer looks like it might sell out quite soon, but it's hard to commit to 7+hrs for theatre without reading a single review first....hmmmm

Re: Free Theatre/Concert Tickets Discussion Thread
I thought you guys were talking about the Great Gatsby musical which starts in August in Islington (which I'm interested in going to) until you mentioned the Noel Coward theatre. And I just had a quick Google and there's three Great Gatsby productions opening in London this year

Gosh that reminds me of His Dark Materials at the National Theatre a few years ago. It was in 2 parts, each 3 hours along, and you could watch them back to back if you chose or on separate days.
It requires quite a bit of stamina to sit through such a long production and maintain concentration.

I haven't seen any free tickets for this CT? Did you get them via SFF?

I went to see this a few years ago at the Olivier Theatre at the National & I have to say I agree. I clearly had the stamina as I stayed until the end, but I would never do it again. It was too much to be honest, if the chairs were more comfortable I reckon I would have happily fallen asleep. It really don't think there is any production that can keep me engaged for that length of time.funthing29 wrote:Gosh that reminds me of His Dark Materials at the National Theatre a few years ago.
