Re: Salmon Fishing in the Yemen
Saw this whenever the first SFF screening was. This was the last of my back log of reviews and I put it off because no other film has left me more interested, before, during or after than this one. It's not that it's a bad movie, it's just the definition of forgettable cinema.
Here's the review I managed to squeeze out: http://londonfilmfanatiq.com/2012/04/12 ... the-yemen/

102 Different free films seen in 2010 plus 2 repeat viewings and a few tv show screenings... not too shabby. Thanks to everyone for their contributions here.

Pleasant "Sunday morning" viewing material.
We were given a free copy of the book @ the screening, so I'm looking forward to comparing it to the film.

Re: Salmon Fishing in the Yemen
Loved this - perfect Sunday morning movie. Loved spotting "Glenbogle" from Monarch of the Glen too. Kept expecting to see Richard Briers come striding across the lawn with his spaniels.
Great comedic acting. So totally British. Have to say I felt sorry for someone at the end though. Didn't seem fair.
Couldn't believe when I was handed a free book either. Yay! Nice one, Daily Mail.

Re: Salmon Fishing in the Yemen
I saw this today at odeon Rochdale, we got there about 10 and it was already starting to fill up. As we were handing our tickets in i was amazed to find out that they were offering the book for free!. by 10:30 the cinema was virtually full with only 1 seat left. I thought the film was quite good and it was better than i expected, Ewan Mcgregor and Kristen Scott Thomas i thought played the best parts. It was an easy to watch film for a sunday morning and not a bad story from the screen writers of Slumdog Millionaire

Re: Salmon Fishing in the Yemen
they took a very unlikely plot and turned it into a very enjoyable film.cinematography and acting were of a very high standard. sentiment and comedy were well mixed agree comments on Kristen Scott Thomas
but her's was only a cameo role which kept the story moving forward.

Re: Salmon Fishing in the Yemen
What a lovely surprise a free book as well as a free film amazing. Saw this at a very full Bournemouth Odeon and loved it. Was unsure at first whether it was my type of film but as i got into it i really enjoyed it. Funny in parts with a bit of romance thrown in worked really well ,a great sunday morning and now im off to read the book.

Re: Salmon Fishing in the Yemen
I haven't been on the site for quite some time, so a big "Hi" to anyone who remembers me. I've kinda missed you guys.
Well then, for the first time in ages, I actually managed to get some tickets to see something via SFF. It seems much harder these days to actually bag tickets, especially since my old Sky and other press related film sources have dried up.
OK, to my shame, this is going to be my first film outing since "Pirates of the Carribean" back in May 2011.
I can hardly believe that back then I was well on track for the 100 films last year, and that I actually achieved it the year before.
I was looking forward tremendously to this morning's offering though, and had even persuaded my first wife to come and see it with me. Fantastic!
Did a bit of pre-visit research both here and on IMDB. Salmon Fishing looked like it might be quite good. Got Ewan, Emily and Kristin in it - what's not to like. Lightweight romcom - Just the thing for an easy viewing "brain in neutral, and let it all wash over me" Sunday morning.
Get to the cinema only to find to my horror that the screen was completely full, except for one free seat. Oh no!! I managed to resist the temptation of telling the wife to go round the shops for a couple of hours while I stayed and watched the film. See! - all those years of married life have taught me something at least.
We were able to blag two free books and a pair of Odeon Blue tickets though in lieu of the screening, so that was OK.
Also, cashed in (for the second time, as they hadn't actually collected it in last time I redeemed it
) my two free complimentary "combos" (drink, chocs and nachos snack) letter. I'd received this for a cancelled Tron viewing back in 2010. Even though the "food" was free it took some eating.
Why anybody would p*y over £18 for something as unappetising as this is beyond me - I can remember thinking this last time I had them as well.
In a stroke of good-fortune I've just managed to get free tickets to see this tomorrow night - so all's not lost - we'll get there a bit earlier and hopefully see it eventually.

So to sum up - a free film screening with no seats available eh! What should I score it as?
Given that we came away with 2 free tickets and a couple of books I feel 3/10 is appropriate but I'll need to reduce this by one to take account of the appalling complimentary nachos snackettes.
So thats a 2/10 then!
