Marley

#1 Post by soonforgotten » Fri Mar 09, 2012 2:03 pm

I caught a screening of Kevin Macdonald's new documentary, Marley, last night. As a fan of Bob Marley, I figured I'd at least enjoy it, but it's actually astoundingly good. As a music doc, it's great. As a biography it's dead perfect. Mcdonald has done such an incredible job in unearthing information and getting some unprecedented interviews. Just a fantastic film on all fronts.

It's out on April 20th (coincidentally, I'm sure)

So this is a prequel, yeah, showing what happens to the dog before it meets Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston? :giggle:

This looks really good... I'm lucky it's showing in my cinema... but I heard you can stream on fb!
A horse walks into a bar and the bartender asks, "Why the long face?"

A pony walks into the bar and whispers, "I'll have a beer, please." The barkeeper asks, "Why are you whispering?".
"I'm a little hoarse."

Not usual for people to see a documentary in the cinema me thinks... but heard only good things about this.
Hopefully I'll be able to catch it before it goes off circuit.

Saw this today at HMVCurzon Wimbledon, where even the early performance was better-attended than some mentioned here. Mind you, maybe you'd expect that given the area and the fact that the cinema is above a shop selling CDs and DVDs. I don't expect to see any documentary to match Senna, let alone beat it, but I'm not usually a fan of documentaries and I did enjoy it. Great value, too, at £4 for nearly two-and-a-half hours! The odd thing was seeing, though not for the first time, events which took place almost wholly in my own lifetime (Bob Marley was born a few years earlier than I was) portrayed as history. Which indeed they now are, AND it all seems so long ago.

Saw this at Greenwich Picturehouse last night, with my "March" twitter comp tix that I won last week, it was clearly written on the back of my tickets. Nevertheless, that we are almost at the end of April :D I was surprised the cinema was packed being on the outskirts of London on a very, very wet and windy evening.

What a lovely and comfy cinema. Been once before, was late and only just managed to get in just as film starting, and rushed out quickly to get to another screening, so did not really appreciate how nice it was.

We were assigned really lovely seats, and also found one of the Penguin classic books in the Treasure Hunt that Penguin Books are doing this weekend at Picturehouses, by placing books under seats. So well worth going this weekend! :P

Thought this was an excellent documentary. Just loved the music of Bob Marley, and the documentary really showed you the man behind the music and what a great singer-lyricist he was. I was tapping away every time the music played. He had a really interesting life, but it was also very sad too. The Rastafarian way of life was interesting too. Interesting fact that he had 11 children by 7 different women though, and his wife was so good about it.

Wow, when they interviewed his son, I had a double take as he is the spitting image of his father, at first I thought they were interviewing Marley.
