Re: Avengers Assemble
Thanks for all the reviews and thanks to a_person for the 3D glasses pictures and sf for the great pictures.
As there was no Manchester screening I am intending to use one of my free tickets for this, but assume they will only cover me for 2D screening, is it worth p*ying extra for the 3D?

Re: Avengers Assemble
I don't think it is because in the TV show, Nick Fury seems to reference the Avengers at literally every opportunity via flashbacks. Like how Captain America managed his intensive training routine or how Iron Man took a while to develop his own superhero persona.canadian_turtle wrote:Oh thank god!Jayman wrote:Good to know :)
Clark Gregg: No, no, no. I talked to Joss Whedon early on. I said “Hey, why is everyone saying this?” And he said, “Yeah, I’ve done that before. Don’t worry. You’re safe.”

My own theory was that because Coulson is in the new Spiderman TV series shich is supposed to tie into the movie he can't be dead. But of course Spiderman can easily be set before Avengers...
BTW,
Coulson is an agent in the show, but he doubles as a school principle. The joke is that his character is more concerned with the school budget than with the actual S.H.I.E.L.D. problems.
Nope! hardly noticed the 3D. At times I picked up the glasses to check it was 3D in case we were watching a 2D film with dark glasses on.akh43 wrote:Thanks for all the reviews and thanks to a_person for the 3D glasses pictures and sf for the great pictures.

Re: Avengers Assemble
It's probably just set in the same universe, with the same characters and even some voices, but without any continuity from the movies whatsoever. J.K. Simmons also provides the voices of J. Jonah Jameson, as he did in the Spiderman movies.canadian_turtle wrote:Ah ok. I'd only read about it before, not actually seen it yet.

Re: Avengers Assemble
I think I must have a secret fangirl inside me that I never knew about since I can't wait to see this again. Cor blimey, this was brilliant!
It really does follow nicely on from all the solo superhero films and is a nice continuation of the superheroes' stories. The action scenes were jaw dropping and fantastic to watch, plenty of humour (especially from the Hulk) and great charisma by all the stars.
My only gripes were the 3D was unnecessary for a large proportion of the film, the plot seemed a bit contrived at some points, and a few parts of the story could have been explained better, but it was still a feast for the eyes! 9/10.
The red carpet was well laid out at Westfield and it was incredibly busy. It was difficult to find a decent viewing spot so I got some nice shots of the red carpet as a whole but it was difficult to get close up shots of anyone. When I was on the red carpet, I saw Jeremy Brenner, Clark Gregg and Cobie Smudlers. RDJ and Renner were hilarious when they were being interviewed by Jonathan Ross and when asked who would win in a fight between Iron Man and Batman, RDJ said Iron Man would man-bang Batman.
They had special Avengers themed 3D glasses at the premiere, which were a nice touch, but were rather uncomfortable so I had to ask for normal 3D glasses to wear!

Re: Avengers Assemble
I don't like superhero movies in general and was largely unimpressed by Iron Man and Thor (though I do love the Captain American film) so the only reason I was really interested in seeing this film was for the amazing cast assembled (has, see what I did there?) to star in it. I love ScarJo and Cobie, and think Chris and Mark are very swoon-worthy.
However I was surprised by how much I did end up enjoying the movie as a whole. All the characters got some decent air time and storylines (for as far as an action-packed superhero flick has a storyline) and even Iron man and Thor, who I previously was very "meh" about have grown on me and I think that upon rewatch (whenever that may be) I will like their own films better.
However, Captain America is still my favourite Avenger and Agent Coulson steals every scene he's in.
I LOVED the joke with the trading cards, lol, what a fanboy.
I was also very happy with the Hulk storyline. There wasn't so much Hulk that I couldn't swoon over Bruce looking like Mark for a large portion of the film and even the very CGI-ed Hulk still had the actor's very recognisable face. He was also by FAR the funniest character on screen, that with a few grunts and blows had the audience in stitches. Point in case the previously mentioned scene with Thor. One thing I didn't understand though was how on earth he ripped out of his shirt but
not his trousers? I know that once he'd fallen to the earth the old guy commented Bruce was naked but in the fighting scene before that with the Black Widow he was still wearing his pants and they looked roomy too. I know his legs didn't expand quite as much as his torso, but they still grew...
8.5/10
I was really surprised that Avengers wasn't in the Sky superscreen and confused with the lack of security of who went inside... Sure they checked for recording devices etc. but they took our Sky tickets from us while we were waiting in the queue at random times so anyone could join the queue without a ticket and then pretend they'd already handed it in.

Re: Avengers Assemble
This was very, very good, just loved it and want to see it all again. Cannot add anymore than what everyone has already said, lots of action, thrilling and comedy! One of those films I would not mind setting on a continuous loop and watching over and over again! Lovely to see Thor again, I really have the hots for him!
