Didn't Daniel Craig say in some interview that he told Fincher he doesn't do accents....

The performances are weaker. Craig seems to be sleepwalking through the entire film. I don't think he even emoted at all. It is such a lazy performance. Why does everyone have an accent except Craig? Mara is good but not a patch on Rapace who had more raw energy and had a better developed relationship with Mikael.

The film is long, and it feels long, with an unnecessarily extended running time which includes scenes that show a different side of Mikael from the 2009 version but detract from the central story. The unravelling of the whodunit clues do not seem as gripping as they were in the original film. The mystery seemed rushed and underdeveloped. The final revelations felt unsatisfactorily explained. Had I not seen the original, I think I would have been disappointed with the third act.

The rape scenes, IMO, were equally brutal in each film.

6.5/10.

I watched this at the Cameo with the last of my Picurehouse freebie tickets.

It's no where near as good as the original but credit to them they have made a pretty decent stab and they didn't relocate it to America.

7/10 from me for an entertaining well done movie. The original was just better.

Felt the authenticity and gritty feel of the original was lost along the gloss that seemed to have been massaged into Rooney Mara's peachy-smooth butt cheeks. I'm sure I've seen similar cheeks advertised in Johnson's baby product adverts. It was so detached from the movie, that it might even feature in a similar manner to the the beer gut in the Reebok advert: the butt cheeks are going to get you!!!

The subtitles of the original meant we were presented with consistency, and not having to contend with false or 'missing' accents. For a certain actress, I was thinking that if she just turned it up a notch, she'd be a fierce contender for Allo Allo. Whilst reminiscing of this bygone era, I was then confronted with Jim from Neighbours, and here was me thinking I was watching ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’ – a poor imitation of it, perhaps.

I saw this as a double bill with Hugo...just to give a bit of contrast.

I have no idea about the books or the original but I did enjoy this film. It was a good detective mystery/thriller filmed with the panache of Fincher's darkly toned direction. But what the hell is up with the James bond credit style opening...in fact it would be a superb James Bond credit sequence. Just doesnt suit this film at all. Anyway good performances, not particularly outstanding but Plummer is always amazing. He seems to be in a hell of a lot of films recently in his old age. I also thought the film was at an end half an hour before it ended but it continued to roll another little side story which although nice didnt seem to be structured very well.

but its a good film and as a result I will watch the original out of curiosity. That's where remakes serve a very good purpose. It introduces viewers to check out the source which they wouldnt otherwise have done.

8/10

am quite suprised the BEEB or Channel 4 arent showing the original at this time of the year. 2009 is old coinage for a foreign film.
fav 5 films of the year - Tenet, Bill n Ted 3, Invisible Man, JoJo Rabbit, ?

Finally got round to seeing this last night,

Daniel Craig as Mikael Blomkvist, while i love Daniel Craig in this he doesn't quite match up to Michael Nyqvist's portrayal of the character, some things didn't really feel right with the connection between the two characters Blomkvist/Salander

Rooney Mara playing Lisbeth Salander well there really is no comparison as Noomi Rapace's portrayal was for me far more true to the book i felt hollywood tried to soften the character, now i'm not saying Rooney Mara did a bad job because it (for me anyway) would have been near impossible to live up to... where it lacked for me was it was as though holywood wanted us to see Lisbeth as a person capable of love, emotion and vulnerabilities a much softer individual however Lisbeth is cold, distrusting and angry and all with good cause therefore she protects herself with barriers and even though she trust's Blomkvist (to a degree) she previously was distant to him and it made the story better she would only take what she needed from Blomkvist as and when it suited her and on her terms and he (partly) knew why and he accepted that.. there are so many (little things) that just didn't feel right with the character portrayals i could go on all day but i wont. The film itself is shot well very similarly to the original maybe it is just the original was so very good that it is difficult in my mind to see this as anything other than (just another remake) if you haven't seen the original i think you would enjoy it a lot more even with all my nit-picking :D and for anyone who hasn't seen it yet it is definitely worth watching even better have you not seen the original ;)

Again despite my comments please see it if you get the opportunity

also very worth noting the Original movies are fantastic and well worth watching and the story is told so well you will forget that there are subtitle's ;)
