Re: Avengers Assemble
It is The Samaritan, re-named Fury and conveniently released same week as The Avengers.

Re: Avengers Assemble
Saw this at a 10.30 screening this morning. Digital projection issues meant the trailers were all green, purple and blocky. Luckily it was sorted out by the time the film started but is typical of the lack of care and consideration given to cinema projection these days.
Anyway on to the film itself. I really loved this. I've liked most of the previous films that preceded it but this was the best one so far. Smart, funny and incredibly exciting. Sure the first 30 minutes or so are slightly hampered by having to find a way of getting the characters together for the first time but once that's done it's action all the way. The last hour is wall-to-wall action and will be hard to beat in the future. Crucially though, and why I think this is one of the most entertaining superhero movies so far, it's very funny. Not surprising given Joss Whedon's previous work but there are plenty of hilarious one-liners and amusing character moments.
Too many favourite moments to mention (plus I wouldn't want to spoil it for everyone else) but Hulk gets a couple of stand-out moments. The acting is excellent all-round with special mention to Tom Hiddleston whose performance as Loki is even better than it was in Thor. So overall, Joss Whedon done good.
Unsurprisingly the 3D is pointless, so I'd recommend going with 2D.

Re: Avengers Assemble
Saw this film last night and absolutely loved it! Brilliant action scenes and lots of funny one-liners. I was totally engrossed in the film from start to end.
In fact I didn't want the film to end, I was enjoying it that much.
Stand out performances - Tom Hiddleston's Loki and Robert Downey Jnr's Stark.
Also didn't notice any special benefits of seeing it in 3D, the action scenes would be just as amazing in 2D.
10/10 from me.

Re: Avengers Assemble
Can anyone tell me if the new trailer for Dark Knight Rises is attached to the film? Curious as it's been mentioned elsewhere that it will be with AA. Looking forward to seeing the feature tonight.

Re: Avengers Assemble
I too went to see this in glorious 2D at the O2 yesterday. Such a blast. Story here is absolutely minimal...in fact its frankly lazy. But its more than made up for with the most wonderful superheroes ensemble (or rather Assemble) and boy were they great to watch as they bicker, fight, and collaborate against world threatening enemies. It truly was a comic book fan dream come true. Its as if the makers were ticking all the boxes in a list of classic superhero vs supervillain and superhero vs superhero comic book covers. The dialogue was snappy and fun all the way. And there are so many moments that are truly unforgettable. Every single superhero had their moments to shine. Love it.
I might contradict myself if I am honest but its not the best Marvel film, I still rate Raimi's Spiderman trilogy, Iron Man, and even Thor more because they have the better storylines and I do like a bit of subtlety and character development which The Avengers completely lacked. A throw away line gives us the complete background for Black Widow and I dont think they even bothered with a throw away line for Hawkeye, he's just there to do the Legolas thang.
But I still give it a 8.5/10 because even if it was lacking in several areas, it truly was a spectacular achievement to bring our superhereos together in such a joyful, harmonious and gleefully destructive manner to the big screen.
SPOILERS:
I was really sad when Agent Coulser died. I thought I would see his character kick some butt in this film having seen the awesome short movie attached to the Captain America blu ray.
This end credit scene just didnt have the oomph for me as in the previous Marvel end credits which actually progressed the assembly of the Avengers. The villain Thenos felt like he was just thrown in there without any idea of what the story will be, no big deal though, its just an end credit, which are bonuses after all!
Right from the beginning of this thread I was concerned about how they will explain Thor's return as the bridge was severed between Asgard and Earth with left Natalie Portman working on Earth to find a way to bring the star crossed lovers back together. And here is the answer I get from the film: Thor returns without any explanation apart from a guess from Loki "so what magic did Odin have to conjure up to send you here?"...oh come on!
Best laugh out loud moment:
Hulk using Loki as a fly squatter
Sadly no new Dark Knight Rises trailer at my screening which was rumoured to be attached, maybe only on the 3D prints? Saw trailers for Brave, Dark Shadows (first time seeing this trailer, very Tim Burton...probably too Burton, ie a bit samey) and American Pie Reunion.
