I decided not to weigh myself until after Christmas, I don't want to start stressing out about it, I'd rather just enjoy myself now and then work it all off in January. Although have been careful on the days when I'm not out and going to the gym, then just have what I feel like on the days when I am out. Think everyone must be doing the same thing where I live, the gym was packed out last night

Re: Weight Watchers
I agree, that is a realistic goal for now, stay the same weight :) I've now been to 4 xmas dos, drawback of being freelance, getting invited to my clients dos! I know my calorie intake has jumped dramatically as a result but to compensate I'm trying to just do that bit more cardio whenever I can, and so far I seem to be contained. So far I've lost 19lbs but I will aim to stay there through the xmas just like you, BettyBoop!
I'm in the middle of reading an e-book called Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle by Tom Venutu. It is very very enlightening and easy to follow. Reading this book is now making me feel even more positive about reaching my goal as I now understand so much more how the body works and more importantly have a clear direction of where I am going, how I'll get there, preparation to adjust my ways when obstacles cross my path, and how to focus and keep on track. The book is highly praised by health sites and is considered the best gospel to weight loss without using crash diets or supplements, hence why I b*ght it. What I think is great about it is that it caters for all body types, does not generalise and considers your whole lifestyle, body, genetics and mentality. It cost $40 (yeah, its american) but came with added useful ebooks such as List of foods that Burn Fat and other useful smaller books as well as an ongoing personal support from the author (havent tested that yet!).
So I have a thought. Since we're all in the xmas zone where losing weight is not quite the priority for many of us at the moment, and gyms are shut, I'm going to share the knowledge I'm gaining from this book on a daily basis, so we can at least maybe plan some proper weight loss goals in the new year. Maybe I do it chapter by chapter. You might want to b*y the book yourself but strangely its only available as an Ebook. How ridiculous! I'm ok with it as I read many ebooks and have a very large screen mobile phone with hi resolution to read ebooks. But I know most people dont have that and would want a paperback option. Well anyway...
...so here goes.
The introduction of this book explains and goes all out emphasising that our goals must not be to lose weight but to lose "BODY FAT" WITHOUT losing MUSCLE. Secondly, we must be patient. Low Cal or special Diets (like aitkins) mostly always work and you will lose a lot of weight fast but it is another thing to try and maintain it once your "crash/special diet" has completed. To maintain the new weight, you have to maintain the crash diet for life which of course is incredibly unhealthy and make you prone to suffer all kinds of health problems. So most of the time, people who go on these types of diets will always put the fat back on just as fast and with interest. So Low Cal/special diets are a no go. It also explains drawbacks of using protein drinks and supplements. Um..forgot what those drawbacks are, sorry! But basically, its far better to eat natural foods as much as possible and avoid anything processed (as much as possible). To lose weight effectively, healthily and to maintain your new weight for life, you have to have a nutritious diet that you can maintain comfortably for life. But you also need to burn the fat with cardio AND "Feed the Muscle" with resistance training to assist the cardio work outs by increasing your metabolism to burn the fat. It is important that you never eat too little otherwise your body will go into "starvation" mode resulting in a lower metabolism rate and when doing cardio, you will end up burning muscle instead of fat. Very very bad. The book aims to make us experts in body fat loss as well as make us leaner!
Thats the intro. I'll try keep this up daily and summarise clearly the main points, elaborating on the essentials if need be, relating what I understand from each chapter. Even if none of you read this, its actually helping me to retain the knowledge by writing this anyway! So if anything, this might be pure self indulgence, just like some of those bloody Coen Bros movies :)

Re: Weight Watchers
it seems pretty straightforward and (for me) kind of stating the obvious. but it can never hurt to remind yourself again. i fall for the trap of not eating anything to make up for a bad day before very often, and KNOW it's not good. maybe repeating the mantra on here will help it sink in properly!
