The Raid
Re: The Raid
Thanks to the Hotukdeals heads-up I have just collected a free seat reserved ticket @ Empire Leicester Square.
Glad got there an hour before.
Glad I held out for the Metro deal as I love the huge screen one. The Raid is being introduced too.
oddly they are selling tickets too!
Hopefully I'll learn some kick-ass moves for my travel home (or hit them with my handbag!)

Re: The Raid
It was a nice touch that Director Gareth Huw Evans introduced the film. He spoke about his humble Welsh beginnings, moving to Indonesia, learning about martial arts and making the film. He encouraged us to make some noise!
Empire Leicester Square wasn't full up (80%?) but there was great audience interaction with applause / shrieks / encouragement etc.
Great fast fighting scenes, not overly gory for me and some humour. Absolutely fantastic on the huge Screen One!

Re: The Raid
Finally got around to posting a review of this and as already been mentioned on here, this is as “action packed” as action packed can get. Very thin plot and storyline but I think that this wasn’t meant to be one of those movies with great character development or the twist in the plot. It was however a film that was extremely well choreographed and effective.
You got to feel every punch/kick/wallop and it didn’t hold back in terms of the violence with some close ups of some of the bloodiest scenes. It was also interesting in the types of violence; the martial arts fighting but also, gun fights, knife fights, and the use of the machete.
As mentioned, don’t think this was meant for those looking for any deep meaning but more a homage to the style of martial arts which has its origins in Indonesia (Pencak Silat).
Also, having heard Gareth Evans on the 5live film review podcast, it was interesting that he referenced films like District 13 which is another martial arts action film… in French! Not as gruesome as The Raid but goes to show that not all well choreographed action films need to be 1. From Hollywood and/or 2. Asian…
Oh, and killer soundtrack… really kept with the tempo of the film and got the adrenalin pumping.
9/10 for me…
