quick off topic, the wonderful Granite imported into the Square is as dirty and squalid as the pavings stone that were previously there. Spend all the money you like, trashy pond life will not appreciate it, and still drop rubbish, drink and chewing gum all over  :wall:

What an absolutely wonderful film, it was certainly well worth getting up for on a Sunday morning. It was more or less perfect on all levels, I still struggle even watching racism it really does make my skin crawl but the acting was done with such humanity it certainly is one of the best films I've seen this year and my eyes did fill up on more than one occasion. 9/10

For what it's worth, the performances are not Oscar winning, but it's very well acted compared to what would have happened if George Lucas directed this instead of just producing it.

Indeed, and it good to see a Brit take one of the lead parts

Welcome to my bottom 10 of 2012, Red Tails. I had a 5 minute sleep or so, and the scene I slept through was STILL going. Long, arduous, turgidly paced, horribly written, awful tonal changes from B-Movie to serious drama. Just dire.

I was in two mind about this. I don't want to go into much detail as other peeps havent seen it yet. One one level, as a family film regarding an important part of history, that not many people know about it was great. Just the right amount of human drama and excitement in the flying. With just the tiniest mention of what a big deal it actually was for the Black airmen. I am going to read some more about the actual airment later.

Peronally I would have liked it to have gone a bit deeper into what they went through as Black in the forces, but that' a different film altogether. I think Don_Datta said there was another film about this I'll have to look out for. 8/10
That'll be The Tuskegee Airmen. It's about 15 years old now. It had Lawrence Fishburne & a young Cuba Gooding Jr (interesting that he's in both films about the same subject). That was essentially a TV movie, but what I liked about it compared to Red Tails (besides the better acting) is that it does deal more with the human element. It shows the pilots in training/boot camp & their struggles before they were even allowed to get into a plane, whereas Red Tails jumps straight into them being in occupied territory.

Red Tails was decent enough. Credit to George Lucas for taking on the project when Hollywood basically said "not interested"... but it could've been better IMO

6/10 (I'd give 7/10 for Tuskegee Airmen for what it's worth)

I enjoyed this film, especially the flight scenes, the whole Italian romance wasn't really required, I guess because it jumped straight into the Red Tails being airmen and not the struggle to get there, just to effort get to the major battles I don't think you really puts over the struggle they went through to become respected in their own right. The part I felt saddest was when the General (?) was talking about the loss of planes as numbers & money and not the human cost, whatever race.

My son really enjoyed the film, my daughter got a little bored in the middle, I think it was just a bit too long. Kids each have an airfix plane to make, thought it best to bring home for Dad's assistance than try and tackle it before the film!

We had some fun in Leicester Square, persuaded kids not to try and lug home large cardboard posters of Brave, Lorax & Ice Age, but took some smaller Ice Age 4 posters & postcards, they also had their photo's done on the green screen for Madagascar 3 postcards, they are very funny little pictures, they opted to have characters painted on their arms, rather than full face paint in this weather, they also got some flags with union jack one side, Madagascar the other which will be perfect for Jubilee Day at school next week. The water jets provide them with some fun today with it being so hot.
Preferred Cinema's now Paignton or Exeter!

The train company had some! engineering works advertised for today so I thought it was a safer option to replace Leicester Square with "driving to" screening in the South, it wasn't local for us, within 1 hr or so... By not going to London we missed out on the kids activities again! but we did watch the film on a nice big screen in comfortable reclining seats but with 2! babies and quite a few 3-5 year olds  . It may have spoiled my enjoyment of the film a bit... Right, the film is definetely NOT for babies or 3 to 5 year old girls  (I thought the parents were quite selfish for bringing them in, and it's not that they've done it for older kids, in most cases there were just 2-3 UNDER 5s from the same family + mum and dad...) but older boys were enjoying it especially the flight scenes. It stated a bit slow for me, it did get my attention from the beginning of the Italian romance and later into the film I felt more and more interested in the characters.... And the film completely won me over towards the end! I thought it was a good movie to see for all of us including the children (I only had boys with me today and all 10+, no babies!!!)
I mostly enjoyed the Italian romance and beautifully shot "multiply aircraft" scenes.
I'm not sure I'll go and watch it again, but the film was definetely worth the morning and the drive.

Seen this today at the Showcase in Glasgow, me and other half both really liked it, i agree we could have had a little more on the struggle to get there but it was well implied throughout the film and that was enough for me on a Sunday morning, well acted, decent story probably not an Oscar winner or a two time watch but decent all the same,

maybe 20 people at the screening must be the good weather put folk off 7/10
