Re: The Amazing Spider-Man
It definitely had to do with the vertical allignment with the projectors. Taking off the glasses there was some vertical displacement that SHOULDN'T be there for 3d and makes bad 3d. It needed to be lined up better and recalibrate.Jayman wrote:Oh yeah, I can't fault the 3D but the footage they showed us at The Untold Story in the Leicester Square VUE was just SOOO much more immersive. This was OK, but I found it more distracting than anything. Either the Sky Superscreen is too large for 3D features, the projector needs to be re-calibrated or there's just too much lighting in the theatre.
But yeah, onto the movie. I thought it was friggen fantastic. I loved the movie. Really tired so won't give too much of a review, but this more than made up for the travesty which was Spider-man 3. There were a few things that i thought were rushed like
Peter is bitten, then 2 minutes later he is fighting on a train. And Peter letting a robber go because a shopkeeper wouldn't let him take a drink when he didn't have enough money? Ok then
. Really loved the new style of this movie, the gritty world and dark tones really was a great and welcome contrast to the quippy and light hearted Spider-man and made for some excellent scenes. It didn't have a complicated storyline, but what it did have was complicated characters and was a brilliant foundation for the new universe.
I do agree that too much was shown but thats hardly the fault of the movie, and when the climax came around you still had the same level of emotional investment and a level of care you provide to these characters. Especially Gwen who 1)Is not in need of Rescuing, and 2)Is not defined by her relationship with Peter, but rather accented by it. It was really refreshing in a word of refreshing directions and just what this franchise needs.
Oh, and how about that scene where the builder and his friends were helping Spidey swing to Oscorp, how emotional was that. The music, the direction, the vertigo like swinging, that scene tugged at me man and made me a tad bit emotional, i won't lie.
Overall, 8.5/10. The First Class of the Spider-man world, albiet flawed and a bit rushed, it was a welcome new direction and a brilliant setup for more stories. This is the Spider-man movie we have been waiting for

I'm pretty sure Marc did this for the sake of exposition. Everyone knows the story by now so no need to dwell on Parker's discovery.TheOnes wrote:There were a few things that i thought were rushed like
Peter is bitten, then 2 minutes later he is fighting on a train. This reminded me of the conclusion in the 2002 version where the citizens of New York assist Spidey while verbally antagonizing the Goblin in their overly distinctive accents.TheOnes wrote:Oh, and how about that scene where
the builder and his friends were helping Spidey swing to Oscorp, how emotional was that.
I guess, i just wanted to see this universes version of it and do it in a darker way, make it a bit more painful and realistic. But nope, few flashes and BOOOM BOOOM BOOMJayman wrote:I'm pretty sure Marc did this for the sake of exposition. Yeah i was reminded of it too, except this was done well and without the cheese and was much better directed (in my opinion)

Did you think he was duller than Avi Arad?elski wrote:I agree about Alex Zane, he has a talent for making things dull. He wasn't quite as bad as the Life in a Day interviews although for that at least we had the entertainment of the tweets being shown along the bottom, they always add some fun to the proceeedings.

Friend next to me referred to Arad as "Drunken Terry Gilliam doing an Arnie impression". Won't ever see him as anything else again.

Am going to write this before reading through the above.
What a FANTASTIC film!
It took a bit to get going, and it seemed to cover lots of aspects such as how he was infected and how he developed his webs and suit very quickly indeed, but the pace of the story, the original take on the well-known story and the actors' portrayal were excellent. The special effects - even if CGI were awesome - and the 3D was - for me who struggles to get any effect from 3D usually - was amazing! I did watch over my glasses and scenes in rooms etc. were not 3D'd at all, but the first I really became aware of it was Spidey shooting a web directly at us out into the audience almost. There was also some amazing footage of the cityscape of NewYork either as fly-overs or Spiderman parcouring through it. There was also the ubiquitous scenes where there appeared to be the floaters that came out of the screen. These were first seen in Avatar as ?dandelion "fairies" but have then appeared in virtually every 3D movie made since. I think they must get that effect cheap by b*ying in bulk.
I loved! The premiere element of it only added to the thrill. This was perhaps let down a little in Glasgow by a live local radio DJ - "Late-night Gina" wandering through the audience with a microphone chatting to the audience (using an overdriven microphone) whilst we had to watch red carpet footage on screen without sound. This being the only fault of the evening. Now to read through what the lesser mortals thought...Lol.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man
Yay! I am in the majority.
Favouritist film of the year so far.
9.5/10 (but may depending on my mood of the moment be increased to a 10!)
Have also to say that I was surprised at how English Andrew Garfield sounds in real life. He could so easily be American. And where had Rhys Pudding's Welsh accent gone? Well done him. Mind you he barely even looked like Rhys Ivans to me - even in human form. Has he aged terribly? Not the skinny geeky beanpole in his underpants in Notting Hill no more.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man
This is gonna sound all very negative, so I'll start with my score: 7/10 (not too bad overall)
My major issue is the very slow pace of this film; if I have to watch a 135 minutes, slow paced film, I'd rather want said film to be dialogue heavy, at least that would keep me interested! I was so bored by the end of the first act!
The leads are very (yummy and) likeable, but come on Emma Stone is so much better than that! Doesn't she deserve a little more screen time? And don't even get me started on the overly underused Sheen and Field!
Now for the 3D; this is definitely a concept that I don't understand and usually don't like; in this case, I found it alright, as it was not very disruptive, but there was some severe ghosting issues (at least from where I sat, roughly in the middle of the stalls) on the very top of the CGIed scenes. They did not get the Empire Building right a single time!
I kind of see the point of the 3D when they show endless landscapes, but when it comes to shooting close and personal, I really think this is a very lazy way of replacing a good cinematographer. Any decent people behind a camera should be able to give you more depth than a (good) full 3D!
Then for the plot; I am not very much into Spiderman; I have seen the first 2 Raimi's I think, but have never read the comics, so I think I missed something, or was it an amazing (<- I had to use this somehow!) flaw/hole?
Peter is bitten by a spider while visiting Oscorp and his transformation starts straight away
but was it a case of intra-species DNA mixture (or whatever they call it?)?
If it's the case, why didn't he have to be injected with the DNA directly, can a spider bite really transmit DNA?
why did he not die? was the decay algorithm already applied on those spiders?
if yes, that would imply those spiders were engineered by his father... then how the heck did they end up at Oscorp???
I told you, I was not an expert in Spiderman, but either way something is missing or wrong... did this bother someone else?
That's going to be all for today. In the end I found it quite gorgeous, the leads were likeable and damn fit but I was very bored by the slow pace and the rather lazy plot!
edit: and about the mid-credits scene, can someone tell me who was the 2nd character?
I guess he's the guy they refer to during the movie, but I have no idea who he is!
