Huh, you didn't like Project X, but gave this cr*p 7/10. That's sick ;) !!!!

I LOVE KFC!!!!

So that's where everyone was at PCC. Audience was badly behaved at Holloway Road. The woman who sat next to Aunty kept talking, even I heard her clearly. She kept doing a running commentary of the film.

Some Chinese woman came in late after the film started and stood at the back shouting her friend's name, then left as they were even later and hadn't arrived. :wall:

Left confused as to what to think about this film. - First of all my first visit to PCC and yes we were fed KFC (!!!) and a beer beforehand as competition winners !

Because the preconception (and director introduction) said this was a dark comedy I couldnt take McConaughy in anyway seriously in the lead role.

Juno Temple was great as Dottie and most of the comedy came from Thomas Haden Church as Ansel.

The plot was a bit thin and I would have preferred to see more of the "good" side of Joe (I know this was conceived as a play but poetic licence could have developed the character more). This could have been done in the first part of the film which did drag

The violence was violent ! Agree that some of this may have been to shock for the sake of shock !!!

Not good, not great, not poor - 5/10

:giggle: I know I am twisted. ;) The casting was perfect, Ansel especially. The more I think of it, the more I like the film and the humour in it.

Generally agree with prettyxcool on this one i.e. I liked it but some of it was a bit hard to take violence-wise. I was really looking forward to it because of the director William Friedkin (French Connection et al) but I was disappointed to hear his line on it that if you don't like it blame the writer not him! I think such people as were in the film do exist, especially in America - people are going to disagree with me but you don't have to look much beyond "Jeremy Kyle US" to believe it. Again, I'm sure some will disagree but I thought all the characters were believable and had some human, almost endearing characteristics, even Killer Joe, who in a sense played very fair according to the rules he set out to people and clearly had a (rather twisted!) hankering for family meals and babies! But God help the babies and family if they didn't live up to his controlling psychopathic expectations.

I thought the nicest character (which isn't saying much) was the wife, Sharla, she genuinely seemed to care the most about Dottie (who certainly lived up to her name but what can you expect brought up in that family?). Thomas Haden Church gave a great performance - he went from perhaps the most sympathetic character at the beginning to the least for me when
he had absolutely no qualms about selling his daughter and finally, helping to kill his son.
The full frontal female nudity of Sharla at the beginning was totally unnecessary for me but I suppose it reinforced her only way of operating in the world, of using her body. The well-publicised KFC scene was really too much for me until
it became clear that Killer Joe didn't need real oral sex to get off - just total domination and power.
I must also admit that I went from total horror
at the overkill of bashing someone's brains out with a tin to some amusement that it was tin of Pumpkin Pie - it summed up the whole dysfunctional aspects of a society that one of its quintessential cultural/patriotic dishes (that you would think couldn't possibly be fitted into something the size and shape of a large can of baked beans) is tinned!
Anyway the film had my friends and I talking for hours which is a success of sorts, I suppose. The film reminded me in a way of the sort of disagreement that "Blue Velvet" provoked but I have to say that unlike "Killer Joe" I really hated the violence and nudity in "Blue Velvet" and absolutely hated the film - it wasn't just anti-women it was anti-humanity.

Also, I'm a bit slow so it took me a while to realize that the slightly
odd portion of blood-spattered fried chicken in the film poster is in
the shape of Texas - very apt.

startling movie. fantastic performances all around. great direction. super cinematography. funny/horrific script.

film of the year, by a country mile. like seeing ¨blood simple¨ for the first time all over again.
