I have heard mixed responses from people who went to Olympic Park yesterday for the technical rehearsal.

One said the water fountains are well hidden and hard to find, thereby forcing people to b*y overpriced water. Others said the fountains are reasonably well located.

Here's a layout map for the Torch finale concert, water is located by the toilets. Nice!

They're not very easy to find (they're located where the toilets are) but they are clearly labelled on the maps in the parc and the volunteers were also happy to give directions.

However, it was hot, really, hot, and as much as I am really looking forward to Thursday, I am a little worried about how hot it's going to be with no shade, we were only standing out for little over an hour today and that was really long enough and that was with the aid of a bottle of water and ice lolly! This can't take anything in with you rule is I think going to prove very expensive!

I think you are allowed to bring in your own food but not drinks but supposedly you can fill up water bottles inside. Many of the tickets are for 2-4 hours sessions so it may not be necessary to bring too much food. Son is heading up to Old Trafford for the first football games on Thursday and wonders if they will enforce the no drink rule there. He has a 6 hour coach ride after the second game so doesn't really want to have to give up all water.
I don't know about the other events but the FAQs for the concert say no food or drink http://blog.cokezone.co.uk/faqs/ it's more drinks I'd be concerned about with the heat, so shall make sure I have some empty bottles to fill.
At all gigs I have been to - there are always water fountains to top up your empty bottles. The Olympic Park encourages you to bring empty bottles to fill, as the airport type security does not allow any liquids to come through.
Make sure you take a sun hat/cap, so you don't get sunstroke for being in the heat too long! And sunscreen. These are my staples in my "gigs" bag, with a poncho for the rain. :P

I had the misfortune of travelling by train yesterday evening from Gatwick to Portsmouth, it took 3 hours and 3 changes as trains were all over the place , worse was the guards who were blowing the whistle before people had even boarded the trains. I ended up going back to clapham then to horsham then to portsmouth and even beat the train that was supposed to have left one and a half hours before the ones I travelled on.

Good Luck londoners, see you on the other side, if you survive...

used to that sort of time to get from stratford to portsmouth, taking 3hours but can't even imagine what it will be like for normal commuters during the sports. I feel for you.
