Diary of a Wimpy Kid 3: Dog Days

#1 Post by Beate » Sun Jul 22, 2012 3:35 pm

Arrived at Vue West End to a whole array of food, various croissants and other pastries plus fruit and fruit juice and delectable mini hot dogs coming round on trays. Found Rainey to whom we owe the tickets, a_person, canadian_turtle and shmile. The queues for the green screen and other "fun in the foyer" stuff were too long to even consider, but OH was happy stuffing himself silly with pastries and muffins etc. Once inside, we found the perfect seats in the back row (so happy about not sitting behind wriggly kids this time), and all in all in was a fairly agreeable screening.

I even liked the film. It won't set the world on fire but it's inoffensive and you can relate to a kid at odds with their family about what to do in the summer holidays. It was actually really funny at times, and I hooted with laughter at the "Sweet Sixteen" birthday party scenes. And that tennis game. :rofl2: I could have happily watched Greg and friends for another half hour or so.

Luckily for the kids we were some of the first in to Vue West End this morning so the kids quickly had a green screen photo and a caricature badge made before the queues really started and by this time they had moved on to the buffet with cakes, muffins, pastries, marshmallow sticks, fruit pots, juices & smoothies, kids loved the little cocktail umbrella's but weren't sure on the mango & mint concoction they came with  but my son completely agreed with Beate about the mini hot dogs, have no idea how many he ate, the lady with the tray kept coming back to him and told him he could have as many as he liked :shifty:

We all enjoyed the film, it's a simple kids film, doesn't try to hard to be all things to all people and something a bit different for 7-11 year old to see this summer. Mine and the kids around us were laughing out loud often, especially at the 'Sweet Sixteen' party! I am sure if we got this on DVD it would be watched regularly.
Preferred Cinema's now Paignton or Exeter!

First of all we FINALLY had a proper "fun in the foyer" again with as many choices of cakes as we did at Alvin and the Chipmunks 3. Missed out on the marshmallow sticks but I got plenty of other things including cakes (guys what are those retangular cakes made of? Is it rice? Or a custard? I love them but have only ever found them at multimedia screenings), mini hot dogs, fruit pots, chocolate muffins and croissants. Yum! Got a green screen pic with a_person (of course! Our collection is expanding rapidly, I love this cheesey souvenir from multimedia screenings) and as we had to wait a while for them to be printed off we were one of the last into the screening room. We still managed to get some seats in the middle though, so all good.

As for the movie itself, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's nice to see a live action family film/series for once that is plain harmless fun. There were loads of cheesy gags but they worked well and it was all held nicely together by the overal arc. I have never seen the other films in the series, but if the third one is already this enjoyable I can only imagine how good the other two are. I really want to see them now!

Also, why did I not know Devon Bostick is in these movies? He was Leo in Being Erica and I have an unhealthy crush on him (unhealthy because he's only still in his early twenties :shifty:  )

Got to see this today at Odeon Liverpool 1 as I had won a family pass in a competition. As my family didn't want to see it, I went along with the very lovely Liteuplee. I think its safe to say that we both had a very enjoyable Sunday morning. We were surrounded by lots of families with young children who were laughing out loud. The children were very well behaved and clearly enjoying this inoffensive family film. Neither of us had seen the other films in the series but this didn't matter, it was easy to pick up the thread of the story.

Lots of cheesy moments in the film but also some very funny ones too.
