I told him that I thought he must be mistaken, because do you know what? ...He only said..... that it contained approximately 1584 calories!!

What a snitch! That was a private conversation between MsThrifty and jojojoannePreston1990 wrote:Ms Thrifty wrote: Actually, jojojoanne, it's a bit of a mystery even to me, as whatever it is (which I b*ght in Windsor a few weeks back) has suffered somewhat from travelling home on busy trains, being frozen and then defrosted, but I think it's some sort of fruit frangipane tart. I do peel my butternut squash I suppose the rind would be extra roughage but are humans supposed to eat that much - I know that I have the constitution of an ox but that may be pushing it a bit.

jojojoanne: thank you so much for unearthing anakin's recipe for me - going to study it now.
Preston: you need to brush up your act before diversifying as a PI (well, I wouldn't hire you yet, anyway but I do have high standards) as of course my well-earned dessert came from an independent artisanal bakery, not a chain - the very idea! That person on the store cctv must have been a lookalike or a clone.
Diane65: thank you for whipping certain unruly male members into line, as usual. Some people seem never to learn, do they?

Good morning everyone.
Menu of the day:
Special K and strawberries followed by a black coffee (300 calories)
6 Jacob's savours, pate, cucumber followed by a banana (350 calories)
Anakin's pea soup with 2 home made chapatis (if these don't work out as its mainly flour and water I can use it as wallpaper glue for my feature wall - I won't waste food
A go ahead cereal bar (150 calories) I'm working 8am until 6 so will be late when I get in hence the daytime snack.
Exercise of the day:
It will be 45 minutes of my exercise DVD as I can't do the floor work due to having no room and won't be able to see DVD due to furniture being in the centre of the room with decorating). Can I class doing a second coat of gloss as exercise?
What is everyone else up to today? Have a fun day

I'm very relieved to hear that the manager had got it wrong MsTMs Thrifty wrote:Preston: you need to brush up your act before diversifying as a PI (well, I wouldn't hire you yet, anyway but I do have high standards) as of course my well-earned dessert came from an independent artisanal bakery, not a chain - the very idea! How bizzarre though, and what a strange co-incidence, that the store manager should use the phrase "striding determinedly towards the chiller cabinet in an ancient pair of well-worn Hanwags, armed only with a pair of stout walking poles" about the actual perpetrator.
I'm just getting organised for a bike ride and putting some salady stuff together for lunch, together with a flask of coffee. I'll post again later once I get back.
Good luck with making that Indian bread Diane. If it turns out all wrong you could always do a quick chorus of "It's chapati and I'll cry if I want to"
Sorry, I'll get my coat!!

Re: Weight Watchers
Well another day of heavy rain!!
Got soaked yesterday coming home from the cinema - was going to walk but it was torrential rain and had to catch a bus. So not much exercise yesterday. Going out with the grandchildren today but instead of a fun day out we are going to a shopping mall so my daughter can get them new school clothes. Have a bite to eat there too so we can all keep dry. It is worse than the winter!!
Going to a show tonight at the Fringe Festival with a friend but not a late show so will not need to walk home.
No meals planned as yet for the day so just taking it as it comes as don't know what I'll be eating at lunch time.
Good luck with your cooking Diane, I am sure they will be delicious. Hope the weather isn't as wet beside you Preston so you can enjoy your bike ride.
Have a good day.

Re: Weight Watchers
Preston, I did warn you about girls' bite, man
Preston, since you riding a bike, and I know you are not quite tech savvy but if you have a smartphone, there is wonderful app that the more miles you do, the company donates money to charity. I'm looking more into how this all works but if I find it a genuine and productive scheme, I will post more about it shortly. We can all take part in this and it will be wonderful for us and the charities too.
I overheard the whispering about Ms Thrifty's venture with a Sorbet, I hope enjoyed it MsT! You deserve your treats what with all those marathon walking marathons you've done. You havent answered my question about the alternative exercises you doing whilst you are rehabilitating though
All these recipes are fantastic but I still like to see more vegetables in those recipes! Dont forget its not all about losing weight opr rather body fat but its about keeping healthy too with all the right nutrient intake.
Diane, you have obviously gone way past the beginners and intermediate stage of your health and fitness journey and are well into the advanced stages now. Now you need to think about if your meals have all the vitamins, minerals and right balance of protein, fat, carbs in your diet. Get that balance right, and you will look even younger, have smoother healthier looking skin and outshine any model on the front cover of vogue, without any need for make up :)
Once you reached your target weight, Diane (and everyone else), you still need to monitor yourself with a tapering off period making slight adjustments to calories in order to adopt to a healthy sustainable and enjoyable eating routine for life. And there will never be an end to setting your target, you might want to gain more definition around areas, this will come down mostly to regular exercises. Always have a target set of some kind to maintain that weight, though.
Here's a link to the list of essential vitamins, minerals and calcium and the foods from which you can obtain them. Basically though, just keep mixing your veggies and fruits, dont stick to the same thing all the time. Its essential to have that variety. A rule of thumb is that the more colours you have the more you are fully covering those essential nutrients.
God I'm so proud of everyone's achievements so far this year.

Re: Weight Watchers
This is the scheme. Samsung donates £1 for every mile your walk, run or bike ride. Its available on all smartphones for free.
I'm going try this out today with a 7km run to my evening job at Battersea. What an incredible incentive this will be to be effectively sponsored by a company to raise money for charity. I think there are other similar schemes but they seem to be more American based. This one is UK.

Re: Weight Watchers
I forgot to link to the list of nutrients and what food they are contained in:
http://www.healthchecksystems.com/vitamins.htm
Also, I recommend that you take a blood test every year, and take your results to a nutritionist, so see what vitamins you maybe lacking...or indeed having too much of (turned out I was having too much vitamin D so had to cut down on that but was lacking slightly one of the Bs).
