LOL my back and shoulder wouldn't cope with that. I won't be going next week to that class as I have a film on, but then I can go to the Pilate's and Combat Classes the next day insteadanakin wrote:If you go again and you're alone - you should ask them to incorporate medicine balls if they have them. Pleased to hear you had good results with your chapatis Diane. Don't think I could manage that.
All this talk of Indian food made me b*y an Inidan meal for two out of Tesco today!!
You put me to shame Diane with all that activity - but then you are much younger than I am. In my youth I played netball, swam, went ice skating and danced to Lesley Gore!
But then other "activities" became more interesting
Good luck for your weigh in tomorrow Diane and Preston.

Re: Weight Watchers
Yay, Go Valda! I still have horrid memories of my Swiss ball class, was a disaster! I had no coordination, only bloke in the class and was constantly running around like an idiot trying to get my swiss ball back after sliding off it, cue lots of stifled giggles behind my back...valda wrote:I finally managed to get to the gym yesterday. Started off by falling off the treadmill - when it wasn't even switched onI did a 15 min Swiss Ball class and a 45 min combat class
I raised £4 yesterday for charity, yesterday by simply jogging to work, I had a large wheelie bag with me so I couldnt do a run. I raised it using the Samsung Hope Relay Olympic smart phone. All you do is walk, cycle or run and Samsung donates £1 for every mile you! Valda, I saw you with a nice smartphone the other day
This is the video it made of my run yesterday

I invited some of you on facebook to join my team, or you can go solo if you like but I think this is such a great scheme and incentive to raise as much as we can and in turn helps us with our own fitness goals!
Diane...Right on the money! carrots, broccoli, sweetcorn...wooo
Preston, I might be the annoying know-it-all (I far from know it all btw!) but I think you have been the biggest driving force for everyone's own fitness journeys, including me, I tailored off for a while but you came on pulled everyone in like a magnet! You are incredible.
Clarbarr, Biggins, Jojo, Anakin, MsThrifty, and rawr_xoxo (forgive me if I missed anyone), you girls have been so incredibly supportive to each other, and well done on your progress.
We all have our setbacks but you are always coming back here, with renewed vigour to get back on track and that in my book is an even bigger achievement, the getting back up from a fall and makes you stronger willed when you know you can overcome past obstacles.
I gotta try some of Anakin's recipes too now, they sounding legendary!
OK, going to raise another £4 for charity with a similar jog (with big wheelie bag) to my evening work :) This seriously gives me an incentive to raise as much as I can.

Re: Weight Watchers
Thanks for posting that link MrG - I've been looking at it very carefully and I'm pleased to say that it provides conclusive proof of what I've always thought. Yep - No mention whatsoever of Maltesers in the vitamin B list.TheyCallMeMrGlass wrote:I forgot to link to the list of nutrients and what food they are contained in:

Very naughty Diane!Diane65 wrote:Mr Glass (Oh wise one) I think that you will find that I'm only eating the Maltesers due to the vitamin B content of the malt which I'm sure you know is essential for the immune and nervous system, muscle tone, metabolism etc do I need to go on? As you've just said we shouldn't miss out on the essential vitamins and minerals so I am only heeding your advice
I'm not sure you deserve it after the above but here you are:Diane65 wrote:Please may I have the recipe for Pad Thai
Serves: 4
Preparation Time: 15 minutes (unless you are the sort of person who takes 30 mins to dice a butternut squash)
Cooking Time: 10 minutes
You will need
300g flat rice noodles
2-3 tbsp fish sauce or light soy sauce, to taste
3 tbsp tamarind paste (or 4 tbsp lime juice, if you can’t find tamarind)
2 tbsp palm or brown sugar
4 tbsp groundnut oil
400g skinless boneless chicken, breast and/or thigh meat, sliced
4 garlic cloves, finely chopped
3 shallots, finely sliced
1 tbsp Thai dried shrimp (optional)
2 tsp mild red chilli powder
3 eggs, lightly beaten
150g fresh bean sprouts
75g unsalted roasted
Peanuts, chopped
Small handful coriander, chopped
2 spring onions, finely sliced
1 lime, cut into wedges, to serve
Method
1. Cover the noodles with just-boiled water and set aside for 10 minutes. I like to mix the fish or soy sauce with the tamarind paste and palm sugar in a small bowl and set aside.
2. Heat a large wok, until it is smoking hot. Add three tablespoons of oil. Tip in the chicken pieces, frying and stirring for three minutes, or until the pieces turn golden. Add the garlic and stir-fry with the chicken for a few seconds. Follow with the sliced shallots, dried shrimp (if using) and chilli powder. Stir and heat through for a few seconds.
3. Drain the soaked noodles and toss well with the ingredients in the wok. Stir-fry for one to two minutes – the noodles will start to soften and change texture.
4. Push everything over to one side of the wok. Add the remaining oil to the cleared area and crack the eggs on to it to form an omelette. When the eggs have set, cut into small chunks with your wooden spoon or spatula and stir in with the noodles.
5. Add the tamarind and sugar mixture to the wok, folding it in to coat everything evenly. If the noodles are still too firm for your liking, Diane, splash a little water over to help them cook. Add two thirds of the bean sprouts and sprinkle with half the chopped peanuts. Taste and add a little more fish sauce or sugar, if you like.
6. Stir and, when the vegetables are beginning to wilt, transfer to a serving dish and shower with the remaining chopped peanuts, coriander and spring onions. Serve with lime wedges.
The beauty of the recipe is that it lends itself to allowing the substitution of a variety of ingredients instead of the chicken - like prawns, mixed seafood, vegetables or even tofu. Ok, no-one really likes tofu
Oh yes, here's a little timesaving tip that I sometimes use.

And.....Yep I'm certainly old enough to remember Lesley Gore. Don't be fooled by Diane calling me "young" man all the time - it's just her little joke!!

Well done for the gym work Valda - That's excellent!
Don't worry about the treadmill - That's one thing that it's never too soon to get off!!

Maltesers do have Vitamin B and I have no idea why they aren't included in MrG's list - obviously not as comprehensive as it could be. You seem to be doing a lot of snitching these days
Well done Valda on your classes you are certainly back in the swing of it
MrG I will try to get my body fat measurement somehow and I don't mind a bit of pressure its good for me. I hadn't gone to see a Doctor at work about me, we were just chatting about life in general (he's my friend and we work on the same corridor) and he mentioned my weight loss and gave me that knowing Doctor's look telling me that I shouldn't lose much more. I can't actually remember the last time I went to see my GP and I would feel a bit odd going to see him when I feel perfectly well to see how much fat I have so I'll probably have to go down the gym route.

Re: Weight Watchers
You are hardly "trailing" Diane!Diane65 wrote:Preston has lost an amazing 34lb and I'm trailing on 24lb.
In reality you have allready lost 85.7% of the weight that you wanted to lose.
I on the other hand have only lost 57.6% of the weight that I want to lose.
I may have lost more in pure number of pounds than you, but then I had so much more to lose than you.
And....your current BMI allready falls well within the "normal" category - my current BMI still falls in the "seriously overweight" category.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining at all and I'm still over the moon with what I've lost so far (almost two and a half stone). I think we've both done brilliantly well. You've almost got to where you want to be now, but there is plenty more to go at for me. Another 25 lbs to be precise and that still will only be enough to just get me into the right side of the boundry line between "normal" and "overweight" BMI. But that'll be one helluva better place than where I started out from.
Yeah - remind me what day was that again.Diane65 wrote:Remember when we were pleasant to each other .....
Oh yes.......one more thing..... Let me know if that Pad Thai recipe works out - I may try and make it myself one day!
