Help: What's the best horror film?
Re: Help: What's the best horror film?
Oh yes, I also HIGHLY recommend An American Werewolf in London.
A perfect blend of comedy, eerie scares and a Picadilly Circus-based porno theater rampage ... wait what?
Love this movie. LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT !!!!

I'd say religious themes in horror are the scariest. But the oldest and original are by far the best - The Exorcist, The Omen.
If you want intense horror/gore, check out some Japanese, Spanish, French films.
Extreme and awesome.

In its day, Carrie was the most frightening horror film ever - but it depends on your age at the time of release, and your attitude towards such films. I found all the Omen films particularly terrifying - but I am FMUK's resident wimp, so that says it all in a nutshell really.

They scare the living daylights out of me too. I probably will match you on my wimpiness tendencies with scary filmsandrews wrote:In its day, Carrie was the most frightening horror film ever - but it depends on your age at the time of release, and your attitude towards such films. Re: Help: What's the best horror film?
I was reminded of this movie last night while watching Sympathy for Mr.Vengeance and Sympathy for Lady Vengeance.
It's a Japanese movie called Audition. Let me be the first to say that I don't freak out easily at horrors. To be completely honest, for the last 30 years or so, nothing has come anywhere close to scaring me. This movie on the other hand, actually made me look away from the screen a good few times and for the most part, I watched it as if I were suffering the same torture as the protagonist.
It's an absolutely unnerving story brought to life by Takashi Miike. If you're a true movie buff, you'll recognize the name. He did Ichi the Killer, hands down one of the most violent and gruesome movies ever produced. Audition isn't nearly as violent but instead focuses on generating the same effect via intense imagery, grating sound effects and downright terrifying performances. If you want a solid scare that'll linger for months on end, definitely check out this movie.

The Shining scares the bejeebers out of me each time I watch it!
Really looking forward to the Halloween showing at Cineworld and seeing it on the big screen!

I really enjoyed the Texas Chain Saw Masscre, but the movie that really made me jump was Woman In Black - not the best movie I've seen but a jumpy one at that!
A few movies I enjoyed were, Wolf Creek, The Clockwork Orange & Creep.

Definitely agree with Audition also recommend Ringu, The Shining, The Orphanage.
The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre is also rather scary but perhaps first time watchers may find it tame by today's standards.
Scariest film this year was probably Sinister or Woman In Black.
