Re: Lawless
Just been to see this at the Rock in Bury.
I thought this was a great film, very bloody violence in the outset, but not gratuitous in my opinion. It was beautifully shot. The characters were well drawn and not two dimensional as is often the case. I'd definitely recommend it. And the soundtrack was brilliant.
Kinda like Broadwalk Empire meets Justified meets O Brother Where Out Thou
With blood.

Re: Lawless
Saw this at Westfield Stratford this evening, was the Vue Extreme Screen but they had started the film about 20 minutes earlier to the start time and then stopped it after the first couple of minutes before realising that the cinema was like 10% full lol... Anyway we got there in the end and I thoroughly enjoyed it, thought it was a very good film with the right balance of characters and Guy Pearce was simply amazing. Acting was of a high standard to the point you actually felt an emotional connection whilst going through the film and the few comedic bits in Tom Hardy's character was a nice touch. Would give it a solid 7.5/10

Re: Lawless
I didn't see him. I didn't see anyone I know even though it was in the big VueExtreme screen 9, which incidentally filled to capacity. I didn't even get my favourite seat because I didnt' get there before 6.15pm. I was miserable at the start because OH had let me down and I was on my lonesome.prettyxcool wrote:My OH
I did however grow to like the film. It was slow-moving but strangely compelling and atmospheric. I love Jessica Chastain but unfortunately she didn't get enough to do in that film apart from showing us her boobs. There was a lot of ketchup involved but it didn't bother me that much because it felt almost a parody. The story felt too exaggerated to be true but was apparently based on a true story - otherwise I would have declared Forrest surviving all his injuries and the cosy ending as pure hokum.
7.5/10

Re: Lawless
Saw this tonight at Vue Islington and it was packed.
Mmmmmmm.... not sure about this film. The trailer looked great but I was a little disappointed but no where near the same level I experienced after seeing "The Watch."
There was a great cast for this film and even LeBeef was not too bad in this. For me I never had any empathy for the brothers and so I could never really care what happened to them in the film or believe in there hopes and aspirations. Guy Pearce was great but very scary looking until I realized he had his eyebrows almost shaved off. Some gory moments and quite a few comedy moments especially with Tom Hardy's character Forrest with his indestructible moments. Not sure if these were intentional. The ending to the film was just too tidy for me but hey sometimes in life you really can have a Hollywood ending.
Worth a watch but don't expect to be blown away. 6/10

Re: Lawless
Didn't think I arrived that late at 6.15pm for a 7pm screening, but was told the gallery was already full, and sent downstairs. When I walked in it was practically empty! Most people came much later. So sat in my fave seats at the back.Octopus wrote:Well, I arrived late so no balcony for meprettyxcool wrote:aaah, Octopus, where were you sitting?![]()
I was downstairs (in the main room? how can I say that?) with a friend of mine.
OH said he sat at front, he was late too (surprise, surprise!). He gives it 7/10Beate wrote:I didn't see him. I didn't see anyone I know even though it was in the big VueExtreme screen 9, which incidentally filled to capacity.prettyxcool wrote:My OH
This is my friend's review:
"Loved Lawless although my eyes were closed 60% of the time I was sitting on edge GREAT movie."
May be most of the critics are all a bit jaded from seeing so many films
