I finishing watching Twilight last night which has taken me two weeks to watch by doing 15 mins each day.... Is it just me or is that girl who stars init so annoying? Everytime she opens her mouth, she keeps shaking her head side to side. In everything. There's a video on youtube about it, you'll see what I mean. It was actually quite irritating. She looks like she's arguing or something. Clearly she doesn't know how to act. 2/10 from me. What a rubbish movie.

Actually I also watched "Drag me to hell" last night. It just made me laugh. I wouldn't recommend watching it at the cinema although seeing it on big screen would make it slightly scary. All the best moments are shown in the trailer. 5/10.

Just finished watching the orphanage - i thought it was really good but was expecting it to be better after all the hype. Also thought it was a horror but it's not really. And I didn't guess what had happened to her son either o/ 8/10

Saw the Kite Runner on Thursday morning... not sure I've ever cried so much at a film before! It was a schools screening, and at one point I went out and when I came back I could hear all the kids crying. Hopefully it opened some of their eyes to how life can be for children in other countries, and to the kinds of reasons that people need refugee status. I found it thought-provoking myself, although I'm not sure it should've been a 12a as some scenes might have given the younger children nightmares. It was a fantastic film, 9/10.

On Thursday night we rented 'Push' on DVD, which has to be one of the most confusing and pointless films of this year. I quite enjoyed the beginning, and it does look visually very good, but the plot was unnecessarily complex and confusing, the relationships between the characters were unbelievable, there were innumerable plotholes and overall it gave the impression of a film that set out to be a 'cool film' without caring whether it really had any substance or structure. 5/10

On Friday night I saw Seven Pounds, and persevered with it despite getting severely bored halfway through. It was quite an emotional film, and the performances by the lead actors were excellent, but the execution of the plot was fumbled and mismatch, meaning there was nothing other than the very beginning 'I need to report a suicide' that was very hard hitting or had much of an impact, a lot of the plot again seemed confused and you have no idea what's going on for ages, once you do work it out it's not so much a revelation as merely 'oh right, that's what he's doing.' It was a good idea with strong acting performances but it was the kind of film that feels like hard work to watch. 6/10

I watched 'Redbelt' the other night, and was really impressed with it. Its a bit of a slowburner, but there are so many twists in the plot that you dont mind the pacing, as you are wondering where the characters will go from their situations to finally reconcile to a hopefully happy ending (dont want to give too much away, you are best watching it with no insight). Excellent direction, a brilliant story, and tremendous acting from a top notch cast (Chiwetel Ejiofor takes every film he is in up a notch imo - children of men, dirty pretty things, serenity, even kinky boots!) make for one of my movies of this year (watched) and dont be put off by the marial arts element, its certaily no chuck norris film!

a strong 9/10

The last DVD I saw was Taken, starring Liam Neeson.

This is an action movie, all right! I absolutely loved it. Neeson goes from being a doting father to superhero secret agent kicking machine, and God helps anyone who tries to stand in his way. He uses martial arts and gun fighting skills to track down his daughter, taking out anyone who stands in his way. This film is excessively violent with a high body count.
Liam Neeson is a force to be reckoned with, and puts in a very forceful performance indeed. This is a fine crime drama, with the usual thriller elements as well. Liam Neeson is usually better known from for his cerebral roles, so it is interesting to see him as an action hero. He spends most of the film killing sex-trade traffickers, but he also delivers a wonderful performance as an estranged father fighting to find his daughter.
Thoroughly recommend it - 9/10 :D

Well, just back from a week in Germany, and the last film I saw was "The Countess" with Julie Delpy. Not quite sure what to think of this. It is a period drama, with a love story, and .... killing people to get their blood to keep old age at bay.

Hmm. This is not a vampire film, and not really a traditional period drama. Julie Delpy was good and William Hurt added a bit of depth. Good to see a range of non-UK/non-US actors too - many of whom were very good.

Not really sure that I would recommend this though, especially if you were p*ying.

Also saw "Angels and Demons" (I nearly lost the will to live - don! why did I not learn not to go to this after the Da Vinci Code was so bad???...), Ghosts of Girlfriends past (which is now added to my list of films which I have fallen asleep in), and Crossing Over, with Harrison Ford, which I liked , and Sunshine Cleaning, which I also liked. Sadly - I had to p*y for these, but the good news is that I have worked out how to get these cheaper (they have the most complicated pricing system there!)

Not the last movie I saw, but the last one I saw that doesn't have it's own 'Film Discussion' page, was Running With Scissors. I do like my bizarre indie films, but this was just too peculiar to believe, and quite depressing. I only realised afterwards that it's actually based on true events. At any rate, any film involving felinicide was bound to be in my bad books- the poor kitty! 3/10

Isn't Joseph Fiennes in that one? I am a huge fan but lately his film choices have been a bit bizarre!
