I was a bit disappointed this year. There didn't seem to be as many freebies and comps about and the grilled sausages outside that were free last year now cost £4! It was for charity, granted, but £4 for a sausage is not a price I am prepared to p*y - I wouldn't even for a German one and those were British. I went with PXC which was nice, we had a complimentary massage and she got a massive balloon hat which made her instantly visible from everywhere and meant I didn't even lose her in the scrum of the Canape Cup.

Quite frankly, I am not sure I am going to bother next year with being a judge. You have to queue up forever with hundreds of other people (nothing exclusive about being a Canape Judge!), then they let you down to the 10 stands which feature one canape each by a different company which you then eat (only one per stand!) then scribble your judgment on a piece of paper plus select your first, second and third choice. It was total chaos, couldn't get anywhere fast and the canapes this year did in my mind not have the quality of last year's. They were all either fishy or spicy - or spicy fish. There was a traditional one with venison and hare etc. which I was looking forward to but for reasons only known to themselves they had poured a load of Bangla spices over it so I couldn't taste the meat at all. Poor.

Oh - we met your husband, ejwrank! Totally surprised to see him there and he managed to get a free coffee from a stand which had all run out by the time we got there. We also missed the Theo Randall signing and the 30 free books. Oh well. Managed to get some popcorn though from the Odeon stand plus a fortune cookie. And edible love hearts from The British Museum stand - afraid I went back and nicked a few more! And if you want a huge nail file, I somehow ended up with two.

I see Eden Caterers won the Canape Cup with their cheese with honey canape which was a strange combination but quite good - I think I gave it second place.

Husband was asked outside Liverpool Street Station last week if he would like an invite and as he is always up for free food he said yes. He brought back a little selection of goodies --chocs, brownies, pineapple, flapjack, fortune cookie-- that we have just devoured after supper (do not tell Diane65 et al on the Weight Watchers thread). No nail file here but he got a pens, 2 shopping bags, Oyster card holder and a bunch more junk. He had quite a few samples of whiskey which delighted him no end but I know that's not for you, Beate.

They did offer the sausages for free later on as samples.

Too late you've been caught out eating all those delicious goodies :nono: I trust that you just tried the pineapple ;)

Pineapple only for me -- oh and half a very small brownie. I know that you would still be losing weight even with indulging in treats, Diane -- shame I am not the same!

:giggle: You're lovely and trim anyway plus you have met me and my generous thighs in person so you will know that was an issue that needed to be addressed!
