Killing Them Softly

#1 Post by soonforgotten » Thu Sep 20, 2012 1:13 am

Yeah, I'll start a thread for this because it's a damn fine film. Pitt is excellent, as is the vast majority of the cast. A violent gangster flick, for sure but a clever one with flair.

I loved the first half. I even thought that this could be my Drive2012, in all his quietness and violence, and then it happened, the director shifted his attention from the kids to Freddy... a couple of bad editing decisions (Mickey second scene, seriously??) and I could not wait for it to finish!
The use of radio and TV was really interesting but I thought Brad Pitt's last lines were a bit too much!
And of course the entire cast is fantastic!

8/10

Wanted to sleep rather than finish watching this. Dull as dishwater.

i loved this. however if slow paced films are not your thing, avoid.

very similarly paced to directors previous film, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (also starring brad pitt).

great to see a movie where violence "hurts". no cartoon violence here.

I enjoyed this. As mentioned its not very fast paced and has a lot of talking but there are flashes of strong violence. Its definitely not for most and more of a critics film than the gangster movie most may expect (Particularly with the economic/political parallels portrayed). Good performances though and Andrew Dominik is carving out an interesting directing career.

Killing them softly? more like killing the audience slowly, grand total of 9 walkouts and I just sat there thinking about what I could do as soon as I left, completely disinteresting film, load of utter shit.

Hands down one of my favourite films of the year. There was little about this film I didn't like. It's cast, script, cinematography and soundtrack. All fantastic.
