I got to see a preview of this last night which was only available for Cineworld unlimited holders. Sorry this dont seem to be getting the seefilmfirst treatment for everyone else though.

Its thought provoking and certainly intelligent sci fi. For Willis fans, for which I am one, Im happy to say that he is at his laconic and badass best given a more emotionally driven depth here. Lovitt, who plays a younger version of Willis character, is however, doing more of a Robert De Niro impression than a Bruce willis one but thats not a big deal because he does it damn good. Jeff Daniels also makes a mark as a no nonsense gang boss of the looper organisation. Not the type of role one sees him do often but hes effective.

There are only a few action scenes, most of which are basic chases on foot and gun fights but those few do pack a punch especially when Willis is involved but on the whole they are not anything special. The direction is placid but to the point. Dialogue is ok, there's a tiny sprinkle of dark humour but overall lacks spice.

Dont go in expecting this to be a big sci fi action film because its not. The visual aesthetics of the future setting is unspectacular, very basic and unimaginative. Focus is on story here that drives a moralistic catch 22 type narrative. I think the film is meant to be a thriller too but I wasnt thrilled for any of main protagonists just simply intrigued which is enough to keep me engaged.

The time travel element is certainly imaginative, and well thought out to serve a fluxuating storyline that doesnt trap itself in restrictive rules. I do find it has holes though but perhaps with a bit more thought on it and adding a time travel rule here and there, you might be able to fill those holes.

So does it live up to the hype? Not really but thats because it is getting very big hype. Its a very good film, it tells a superb story and I reckon it is the best scifi film of the year. Its just not an allround super experience as I perceived it would be from the general concensus.

If you do go see this on its release, lower the expectations and enjoy the great story, some vintage cool Willis moments and an intriguing finale. If you enjoy everything else about it too, then good for you.

ooh didn't see this thread before, here's my recruitment code for the game
http://joevsjoe.co.uk/index.php/site/in ... 9ef46fa4e4

Only just managed to submit my entry for mission 6, finally got a poster pic at cineworld last night, seems a lot of effort on that one for 100 points while others with more points have been dead easy.

btw, to those playing: have you received the map piece #6 after completion of the 6th mission? They sent me map piece #8 by error.
I was hopping I'd received map piece #6 upon completion of mission 8, but they sent me map piece #8 again :confused
So I have 2 identical maps8 and no map 6 although I have completed all the missions!

I tweeted them 3 times, sent them 1 DM and 1 PM, but still no answer... Am I the only one to whom this happened?

(and dirty plug of my recruitment link as well: http://t.co/Kamn0QLO ; you do not have to play if you don't want to, but if you want PM me and I'll send you the answers... there is an IPhone5 to be won ;) )

I'll let you know what they send me for mission 6, hopefully sometime today as yesterday they said they'd finished checking images that they'd received.

Thinking about it... when we get to the final mission to piece together the map I'm assuming all the map pieces will appear in the looper webpage, we don't have to drag across the pieces from emails, (or print them out as my printer isn't working). But I guess it's still worth tring to get piece 6 just in case that isn't the case.

ohh :thanks: so it was you, yes I got the 50 points o/

You need to resize the image to be less the 500k, if you have some photo editing software on your comp you can do it (or sometimes if you right click on the file on your comp there's an option to resize). If you're having trouble I can PM you my email, send it to me I'll make it smaller and then send it back for you to upload.

I gave up on that game!

Much like MrG, I too saw this late last night at an unlimited screening.
Whilst it most definitely isnt 'this decade's matrix' as the advertisers are pasting everywhere looper happy, it is a great sci-fi thriller. Not much action which some might be disappointed by but its more thought provoking and better than the ole blow stuff up and lets get things sorted approach.
As MrG said, the present(our future) being 2044, wasnt a full blown imaginative sci fi world, which in reality, is more likely to happen than some of the crazy stuff people imagine, I like the fact it is grounded in reality.
Great performances from everyone, really didnt recognise Joseph Levitt, thought Willis actually had some depth to his character this time rather than the usual die hard mode he's been stuck in for a while now.
All round great film, no it doesn't live up to the 'hype' but that could be down to the very good advertising campaign, as long as you dont expect a non stop action sci fi chaser much like total recall, then youll throughly enjoy the intrigue of Looper :)
cant wait to see it again :)
