A 'bit too rain man'? As someone who's very shy and introverted, I find that comparison incredibly way off the mark and pretty offensive. There are zero similarities between the two, seeing as Rain Man was autistic. What an odd thing to say.

Plus Charlie was hardly a spoilt kid. It was pretty much established that his family weren't that well off.
And no reason to get drippy?
Charlie was sexually abused by his Aunt and Sam was also abused by her father's friend and a succession of school friends who took advantage of her.
reference to the performance in 'rain man' rather than the condition of Downs, sorry if you are offended. Dustin was overthetop, but Logan took it further, displaying psychokinetic activities in excessive amounts of scenes.

and yep I do think the other kids magnified their problems, but not in Logan's character's case, obviously abuse is a serious issue. As regards 'well off', we have different ideas of what that constitutes, though I didnt use that phrase personally. I am slightly offended, but not unduly, that you'd think I'd see child abuse as a non-serious issue. No matter though.

Saw this tonight at Greenwich Odeon and I swear the audience was 80% female and under 25.

From the advertising and the poster of the film I assumed that this was a film vehicle for Emma Watson. Having this assumption I thought it was going to be a teeny/girly rom com, growing pains, angsty and coming of age film. How wrong was I in assuming it was a vehicle for Emma Watson.

Yes, it was all of the above and I was not proved wrong but this was not the main theme of the film. It covered some serious and sensitive issues from sexuality, abuse (physical and sexual) and the biggest theme was mental illness (associated to abuse) which was always hinted at and bubbled away during the film. In a 90 min film it is never going to go in depth analysis of these subjects but it dealt with all sympathetically and without being over sentimental.

The direction and cinematography was great. The 3 leads were fine and Emma Watson gave a believable US accent.

Loved the soundtrack and reminded me of my own yuth. Just to add by own 2 pence to the debate on the era of the film I would say it was late 80s early 90s. I had not heard of David Bowie until I got to Uni.

7.5/10

I agree, at first I thought they were just being quirky and retro by using cassettes and typewriters and how can you not know Heroes?! And why not just google it! Oh, cos they can't!! How did people cope back then. 8O

Unlike an 80s set film the fashions etc aren't that recognisable so it took a while to settle into the film.

Also, not knowing anything about it I was expecting maybe a Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist type experience and 70% of it is like that, but there's certainly more substance to it that I expected.

Saw this earlier, loved it.
Nailing perfectly that teen feeling without having to pander or do too much over-dramatic stuff a lot of films opt for, with the exception of the final fifteen or so minutes, it was beautiful, funny and moving, with some stalwart performers doing great if not career best work.
Strong 8/10.

They didn't know the David Bowie song... total mystery to me. But the film was better than expected mind I still wouldn't watch it again. Good acting but slight story and .... I'm probably just far too old and cynical.

Yes, strange given they put us in a big screen too.

I rather liked this film, especially the part where Hermione gave Harry his iconic glasses to protect him from the dragons wait what do you mean this wasn't a Harry Potter movie
