Re: Argo
Love Affleck, loved Argo (f**k yourself!)
Often funny, but even moreso perfectly tense, with a wonderfully intense final act. Sublime direction and a strong, but understated, cast make a crazy plot all the more real, engaging and threatening.

Re: Argo
Oh my God, I cried like a baby. The last part was so tense. Everyone else clapped while I burst into tears. I love films that make me cry. It's funny as hell too. Absolutely brilliant. Well done, Ben Affleck. Every single actor in a minor role is someone you recognize from somewhere, and they are all brilliant. There is John Goodman and Alan Arkin being funny, Mr Andrews from Titanic being noble and heroic again and Hal from Malcolm in the Middle playing a CIA Agent trying to save the day. And in the midst of all this is Ben Affleck with a beard, planning what's basically a suicide mission that cannot succeed.
But: ARGO f**k YOURSELF!!!!
9/10
Couldn't understand though why a supposedly sold out screening had loads of empty seats? I had no one in front or to my side while even journalists were made to queue for returns! Plus some people were rudely late. And at the end we were shooed out like cattle through a side entrance of screen 2.

Re: Argo
LOL, it's a prominent quote from the movie and used in a lot of Argo tweets as a hashtag. You'll know why when you watch it.

Re: Argo
I notice durations of films, especially at festival times when they're all alongside one another and 100 mins feels like 3 hours, but Argo is streamlined, well paced and flows beautifully. The final hour never lets up, but isn't painfully intense until it really wants you to be. Beautiful film, crafted to perfection.Ms Thrifty wrote:Sounds very promising - really looking forward to this. It's long, too (120 mins) and I like films to be long if they're good. Though not sure about 2 hours' worth of tension! The Times gave it a 5-star review today but the Standard only 3.

Re: Argo
The thing is that even though you might know the ending already as it's a true story after all, it doesn't matter as it's so well done, and I was willing them on all the time and caught myself saying "Go, go, go!" under my breath when someone was racing across a room because time was of the essence, and holding my breath at the airport at every new checkpoint.

Haven't seen Gone Baby Gone, but I believe we share the same film taste.Jayman wrote:I share this opinion. Like Drive, it's artistically impressive and great to look at, but in terms of its story extremely straightforward.humor wrote:The Town is good but not great in my opinion.
Gone Baby Gone in my humble opinion is far superior.
