Re: Argo
Pure class, from start to finish.
It had everything a film should have: drama, tension, thrills, humour and real emotion.
It had a solid introduction and solid ending but perhaps the middle section dragged ever so slightly.

Re: Argo
Well we really enjoyed this last night in spite of the dreadful hot temperature in the awful Trocadero. Film was superb and even though we knew the outcome it kept us on the edge of our seats throughout. Great performances from everyone and one of the best films all year for me.
And just realised that this was my 100th film this year -- glad that milestone was reached with such a fine film!

Re: Argo
Was Ben Affleck (without the beard) one of the Soldiers at the beginning of the film shooting the tear gas ??
Could have sworn it was him ??
Saw this last night at Cineworld Milton Keynes, thoroughly enjoyed it.

Re: Argo
I did enjoy this for the film drama that it was.
I think Ben Affleck did an excellent job with the interspersing of the original footage with the new film and the huge amount of detail that went into setting up the story and the stitching of it all together.
My gripe is why oh why do Hollywood always need to change true stories and why do the Americans like to write the British out of history at times? The line saying the Brits and the Kiwis wouldn't help was not true. Both having provided help in various ways. I don't think it added anything saying what the film said and I don't think not having the line at all would have made the film any less effective.
That saying, the pinch of salt/lack of whole truth aside, it was a great film and truly deserving of all the praise it is being given.

Re: Argo
Agree with everyone else great film, well done and altho not a huge Ben Affleck fan thought he was much better in this than in a lot of other films he has been in.
Soo many folks turned away from Edinburgh last night, every seat full must say wondered if people had tried to get in with Sapphire tickets or shown in a smaller cinema? Hope they got to see something else or got free vouchers.
Wished I had realised there was more after the credits
10/10 from us

Re: Argo
Saw this in Cineworld Glasgow as a prizewinner of comp on STV. Don't know if everyone was a winner as no SFF code.
Cinema only about half full which seems a shame
given how good the film is and how many people may have chosen to see it if given a chance!
I deliberately made a point of not checking true story pre viewing (which was a good idea as I couldn't remember how it would end).
Film was totally engaging and builds up the tension throughout the film.
Ben Affleck was credible as CIA agent and as Director of the movie.
It's a shame that more than half the audience left prior to the final photos of the real people. The casting or make up was very good as the actors were very similar to the actual people.
All in, I really enjoyed this film and found that the time passed very quickly.

Re: Argo
Hi
Saw this Monday at Cineworld Bradford. A lovely small screen but packed out with a couple of people stood in the side aisles, until they were seen and shooed out by the staff.
Anyway, a real good film. I loved the way they manged to place it in its time, and the best use of archive footage I've seen in a while. I loved the way the opening credits used the period Warner films advert thing (I don't actually know what this its called) and was grainy like it was actually print stock.
I thought the opening credits set the scene really well, succinct and informative but not too long. Obviously inspired by Persepolis, but that its no bad thing
I've seen some comments that say this was one sided and Anti-Iranian. I can't say I agree, I think that the opening made it very clear that the US and GB were rasping what they sowed, and although there weren't any major Iranian parts inn the movie I think the struggle of and impact on ordinary people was sensitively documented.
The only thing that really irritated me was the Jeeps chasing the plane down the tarmac which is just such a Hollywood trope now that even if it was what actually happened should have been left out. I think I'd have recut so you saw them speed off after the plane, and then had more of the tension on the plane and just had the bit where they see the Jeeps out of the window. I don't know, it just letters the tone of the movie in my eyes.
