I was really pleased to see that Gabourey Sidibe has been nominated for a Best Actress Oscar and Mo'Nique has been nominated for Best Supporting Actress.
I guess it's unlikely that Gabourey Sidibe will get anything going up against Saint Meryl, but I feel that Mo'Nique should be a strong contender. I thought her performing was outstanding, if harrowing.

Meryl hasn't a chance this year, an amazing role, but whilst it clearly should be the win for Gabourey, everyone has gone to Sandra Bullock's corner, no idea why.

Of the ones that I've seen from the nominations, I suppose I'd have to go for Mulligan over Sidibe, although I'm not a big fan of either film, and would probably have chosen 5 entirely different performances

What was it about Sidibe's performance that makes you rate it above Bullock's?

Nothing for me, but since the Globes, everyone appears to have gone over to Bullock, the awards seem to think The Blind Side is a superior film, worrying given that it looks as bland as all get out.

I don't think Sidibe is a front runner at all - it seems like it's a straight up battle between Bullock and Streep

Well if Bullock or Streep win, I'm looking forward to watching their films if they were better than Sidibe's.

I'm not sure either of the two films that Bullock and Streep have been nominated for are really worth going out of your way to see...

Streep got nominated because the Academy loves it when established actors take on real-life figures and do a good job of impersonating them (although she's one of the best actresses around even when she's appearing in a bog-standard film)

Bullock got nominated because she actually does a half-decent job in a dramatic film for a change and the film itself is about racial issues and overcoming adversity whilst also being based on a real-life figure (there we go again...) but by all account the film itself is a pretty average sports biopic
