Saw this at the Edinburgh Omni tonight. The cinema was stunned into shocked silence at the powerful portrayal of the innocent Lucas accused of child abuse and how the tight knit community reacted to him afterwards. A scary look at how adults can put words into a child's mouth and how fast they spread around.

This film is not for the faint hearted.

Nice to see so many FMUKers tonight and to meet tsoiboy for the first time. Had to run down all 4 flights of escalators when the lights went mental, going off then on again then off then on again just when the film started. Why are there no ushers around in that cinema? And those annoying latecomers!

God this film made me so angry. It's unfortunate that the Jimmy Savile story will probably overshadow this, and while I absolutely believe those people, it is totally foolish to believe that children always tell the truth. Where on earth do people get this ridiculous notion from? Kids lie all the time - to get themselves out of trouble or get someone else in trouble, or just because they are angry at something or someone. It's natural, I lied all the time at that age. So to say "my child never lies" is just plain idiotic. Yes of course it's good that children can voice what troubles them and not to dismiss it right away but come on! The reactions were so heavy-handed on no evidence that it was deeply troubling. And why did we not see what happened in the year before the final scenes? And what did the end mean? That they still don't believe him?

You can't really blame the children as they didn't really know what consequences their actions would have but what about that child psychologist for example or whatever he was? He totally put words in that little girl's mouth, all she had to do was nod! You can't do that! That's not evidence!

Geez.

I could not stop crying in the last 15 minutes and am still shocked and moved 2H after the lights went back on. Really good narrative, flawless cast and quite a few nice shots.

Saw this tonight at Vue West End. Lovely to meet Beate and Jeancomp for the first time. Good start. Not so good was the flashing lights and late comers as mentioned before by Beate. Really, 30mins late and still let in? Come on.

Enjoy is not the right word for this film. It was excellent and very moving. Quite understated and tension simmering underneath the surface of this film throughout. A very serious film for a sensitive subject. The major flaw for this film was the precept that all the adults wanted to believe the child's accusation without really questioning it. After this the rest of the film is very plausible.

The acting was excellent with Mads Mikkelsen. To be honest I was expecting more self righteous indignation where the lead character would either wallow and die through the pressure of the community or fightback and realise it was an unwinnable fight. This was not the case. Instead the lead led a defiant dignified stance until the supermarket scene which was excellent. There was some humor which lightened the film but not too much. If this had been a Hollywood film there would have been more polarization of good and bad and more of an emotional roller coaster. Fortunately this was a European film . About a good man wronged and good people doing bad things thinking they are right and justifying their actions for it. Giving the film a sort of grey tone like in the real world. So the film feels rather understated to a powerful and emotive subject.

The ending was so un-Hollywood. Not dramatic at all but very melancholic where nothing would ever be the same. Tonally is was right.

Thanks for sorting out those flashing lights, Beate. You were quick! And what is the point of people arriving 20-30 minutes into the film? If you're late, go and do something else. Why can't I ever seem to attend a screening without a hitch? Does the same happen when people are p*ying for films or do cinemas just provide second class service for us? I mean they are getting pa*d for renting the cinema so they should sort things out.

We all liked the film. We talked about it the entire journey home so that was a sign of the quality. We all had different ideas about the meaning of the ending and what might have been. Not the happiest of films (and quite soon after Amour which was also a tough one too) but we were very glad to have the chance to see The Hunt. Always good to see so many FMUKers and glad to introduce Tsoiboy to Beate and jeancomp.

We thought this was excellent too. The little girl was amazing. I was on the edge of my seat at the end wondering what was going to happen. Great to see all the FMUKers out in force and to meet tsoiboy.

Here's my review. I really don't get why people come to a cinema 30 minutes into the film! Coming in late to this film you'd spend the rest of the time wondering if the lead HAD actually abused children.

Also I took a date to this screening not really knowing what it was about. I was thinking I'd really picked a really bad first date film, but fortunately she saw the funny side.

I doubt it would be the sort of film that teenagers would be interested in seeing.
